Alma mater

[edit]

The pag says "Alma mater: Bar-Ilan University".

Yair Lapid has NO academic degree (in face he barely graduated high-school without a graduation diploma). He is at nest a self-educated man. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MensIuguolo (talkcontribs) 12:20, 25 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Widespread Lie

[edit]

It seems to me that Arutz Sheva along with multiple other sources have been quoting Yair Lapid as saying: "I do not think arabs want peace ..." [I cut it short] However, while they reference Facebook, I cannot find any actual post, I've tried using Google Translate to translate to Hebrew for a search and I simply cannot find any such post. If the post has been removed then I can't see why these reports are relevant/correct and are surely misleading. If it was never posted then it must be misleading.

If you can find any reference, please post it below.

Thank you.

Thank you for your concern. While I have not found this in any Facebook post - I haven't looked - I have quoted two secondary reliable sources. According to Wikipedia, these suffice as sources and I am not obligated to search his Facebook page for old posts. I am amending it to read: "Lapid has been reported to have said:..." TM (talk) 22:30, 25 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough, but it still seems to concern me. If we can please confirm that no such post no longer exists, I would very much like for this to be removed. Is that OK? Blewis123 (talkcontribs) 23:32, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Of course you cant find a reference for that, it simply didn't happen. "Arutz Sheva" is an Ultra-Orthodox news site, they don't like Yair Lapid. Asafnahshon (talkcontribs) —Preceding undated comment added 23:04, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

While this has been reported by "Arutz Sheva" (which you may or may not want to trust), it has also been reported by "Haaretz" which is clearly not an "Ultra-Orthodox news site" that "don't like Yair Lapid". I suggest you take a look at this link here: http://www.haaretz.co.il/news/politi/1.1846296 before removing Lapid's comments again. Thank you, TM (talk) 03:01, 17 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Two-state solution and Arab opinions

[edit]

If someone could carefully review the article and edit to contain the information from this page of the Yesh Atid website: http://en.yeshatid.org.il/Ani-Maamin that would be great. I think it clears up his opinions on Arabs as partners in peace and other vital issues.

NP, The national agenda of the "Yesh Atid" party is somehow not exist in the English version of their official site. This agenda can be found in Hebrew here: http://yeshatid.org.il/programmes/national/ on the second peregraph, just after the first 2 sentences, they describes their commitment to resume the negotiation with the main idea of "two states for two peoples" and maintaining the large Israeli settlements, for ensuring the safety of both, Israel and the future country. (http://yeshatid.org.il/programs/national/main Section 4)

furthermore, there is also an evidence of what Lapid said about the "resumption to negotiation" on a renowned Israeli talk show "Mishal Ham" (www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfvQ_qOzMIA) (14:00) . this is also in Hebrew, i can't translate it because of copywriter issues. (also available on the TV channel website: http://reshet.tv/Shows/Mishal_cham/video/.aspx?bo=12295&vml=212243) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Asafnahshon (talkcontribs) 22:05, 14 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Citation needed" removed.

I don't think that there is more to add about this issue, Lapid wants to go back to negotiation without any starting terms of both sides, while freezing construction of new settlements.

Military Service?

[edit]

There doesn’t seem to be any mention of the subject’s military service. It’s compulsory for most Israeli Jewish people. It’s hard to imagine he could have risen this high in Israeli politics (and as a newcomer at that) without having served. Does anyone have any information?HistoryBuff14 (talk) 23:39, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There's a brief mention in the journalism career section: "Lapid started his journalism career as a military correspondent for the IDF's weekly magazine, Ba-Mahaneh ("In the Camp")." Rami R 09:23, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The New York Times Interview of Lapid

[edit]

Lapid's interview to the New York Times, suggesting that settlement construction should not be frozen ahead of peace talks and Jerusalem will not be divided (http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/lapid-to-nyt-i-oppose-freeze-on-israeli-settlement-construction-1.524901) provoked discussions and opposition in his own party Yesh Atid (http://www.jpost.com/Diplomacy-and-Politics/Lapid-backs-talks-even-if-hard-to-trust-Palestinians-313779). Unsourced/unsubstantiated claims

[edit]

Under Personal life and background it says that: "His great-grandmother Hermione Lampel was arrested in Serbia and sent to Auschwitz, where she was murdered in a gas chamber.[15][16]" However, [15] (https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/the-city-of-the-dead/) is an opinion piece written by Yair Lapid himself, and [16] (https://twitter.com/yairlapid/status/964090139545952256) is a tweet again written by Yair Lapid himself. They are just claims/statements written by him. There is no reference to back up the claim that his great-grandmother Hermione Lampel was murdered in a gas chamber. There is no reference to back up the claim that she was arrested and sent to Auschwitz. To be blunt there is not even any reference to her name being Hermione Lampel, or if there is, it's missing here. Nisslaz (talk) 18:13, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

'Defending Israel against bias'

The name of this section is very NPOV, 'defending' and 'bias' are loaded terms. I suggest it should be renamed to something else. Rousillon (talk) 16:34, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lapid is only interim PM and we tend to distinguish an interim or acting official from a normal elected one. So I ask an editor to remove him as 14th Prime Minister and add that he's Interim PM to the infobox. Lapid is the FULL Prime minister. This, according to the official prime ministry website: [5] Notwisconsin (talk) 00:04, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is actually incorrect and the source is wrong about this and thus this change must not be adopted.
Please refer to the wiki article on the Prime Minister of Israel "Interim government table" section.
Lapid is the full Prime Minister and will become the interim Prime Minister once a newly elected Knesset convenes (sometime November 2022). CrazyPredictor (talk) 00:06, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Clarification tags

[edit]
Greetings, I notice this is a B-class article. The article seems very readable except for the "Social media" section. The two sentences in the first paragraph are supported by a total of six inline citations, yet each sentence has a "clarification needed" tag.
  • The messages in the first June 2021 tag states: not sure what this means
  • The messages in the second tag (same date) states: Does this mean that posts were made while they were in the chamber"
This seems like it would be easy to resolve with rewording or that it possibly was, with more citations (I didn't examine them), and the tags not removed, but it seems a discussion should follow how to rectify the situation. -- Otr500 (talk) 20:36, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Added note: The tag documentation states, "When using these templates, be specific: mark individual phrases, sentences, and sections in preference to entire articles. Also be sure to leave specific suggestions for improvement on the article's talk-page", which is what I might have missed, and may be some confusion on the tagging. -- Otr500 (talk) 21:08, 2 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The Alternate Prime Minister date range in the infobox is wrong. It is currently 13 June 2021 – 1 July 2022, but must be 13 June 2021 – 30 June 2022 Lapid became Prime Minister at midnight[1] and was thus no longer Alternate Prime Minister on 1 July 2022 CrazyPredictor (talk) 00:18, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

The wording in the summary is a bit weak, so I would suggest the following change:

From "Lapid became the Prime Minister of Israel on 1 July 2022 after Bennett announced that he would call for a vote to dissolve the Knesset and that he would step down as prime minister shortly after the vote. Lapid will remain the prime minister until a new government is formed after the next election"

To "Lapid became the Prime Minister of Israel on 1 July 2022 after the Knesset voted to dissolve itself one day earlier. The rotation which had Lapid become Prime Minister and Bennett Alternate Prime Minister was agreed upon in the government's coalition agreement. Lapid will remain the prime minister at least until a new government is formed after the next election."

The footnote from the original text can be kept. My main problem with the original text was that it insinuated that the "announcement" that a vote would be called had any relevant meaning. Perhaps it's an old text from when the vote didn't actually happen yet.

If anyone has better ideas, I am happy to hear it :) CrazyPredictor (talk) 00:38, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Social media section unintelligible

[edit]

I can't make any sense of the "Social media" section as currently written:

  • "Since the beginning of the 33rd Government, Lapid has written posts on Facebook that have been quite similar." Similar to what? Why is this important?
  • "There was a discrepancy between the posts and Yesh Atid's work in the Knesset." What was the discrepancy?
  • "The Lapidomator Facebook status generator of a unique text was written by a team of Israeli programmers in July 2013." Huh? There is no context here. What sort of texts did it generate and why is this significant? Can you provide an example?
  • "It has generated new Lapid statuses of every word, and Mako demonstrated three different statuses generated from the words "Lapidomator", "Yair Lapid", and "Bullshit"." Huh?? What does this even mean? "New statuses of every word"?? Who is Mako? Why did someone generate a status from the word "bullshit"? What is the meaning and purpose of this?? Is it supposed to be useful? Is it making fun of Lapid? Is this some kind of controversy? There's just no context to make any sense of this.

Nosferattus (talk) 15:34, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like this section was added by Icewhiz, who has been banned from editing Wikipedia. Unless someone can significantly improve this section, I propose it just be deleted, as it doesn't make any sense and doesn't provide any useful information to readers about Lapid. Nosferattus (talk) 15:43, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I agree that the whole section doesn't really add value and is poorly written.
I would plead that it be removed as well. CrazyPredictor (talk) 00:01, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Since"

[edit]

@GRALISTAIR: That interpretation seems like a bit of a stretch to me. Take Ariel Sharon's lede for comparison. It says:

Ariel Sharon ... served as the 11th Prime Minister of Israel from March 2001 until April 2006.

Would anyone think that there have been 11 PMs from 2001 until 2006? I don't think so... -Daveout(talk) 00:58, 4 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This comment refers to the article saying Lapid was "serving as the 14th prime minister of Israel since 1 July 2022". This is clear English, but wrong. If the Sharon text had been "Ariel Sharon ... served as the 11th Prime Minister of Israel since March 2001" it would have been equally clear, equally wrong. I've reworded it anyway (wp:dated applies, we want to avoid wording that goes out of date; "became PM on [date]" is always correct—even after leaving—"is PM since [date]" becomes wrong). Best wishes, Pol098 (talk) 16:44, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

For an important politician, it's important to put the political party in the first sentence. At the moment, this is the first paragraph:

Yair Lapid (Hebrew: יָאִיר לַפִּיד, IPA: [jaˈʔiʁ laˈpid]; born 5 November 1963) is an Israeli politician and former journalist who has been the Leader of the Opposition since January 2023, having previously served in that role from 2020 to 2021. He served as the 14th Prime Minister of Israel from 1 July to 29 December 2022. He previously served as the Alternate Prime Minister of Israel and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2021 to 2022. Lapid is the chairman of the centrist Yesh Atid party, and Minister of Finance from 2013 to 2014.

Please change it to:

Yair Lapid (Hebrew: יָאִיר לַפִּיד, IPA: [jaˈʔiʁ laˈpid]; born 5 November 1963) is an Israeli politician of the centrist Yesh Atid party, and a former journalist. He has been the Leader of the Opposition since January 2023, having previously served in that role from 2020 to 2021. He served as the 14th Prime Minister of Israel from 1 July to 29 December 2022. He previously served as the Alternate Prime Minister of Israel and Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2021 to 2022. Lapid is the chairman of Yesh Atid, and was Minister of Finance from 2013 to 2014.

My request involves adding Yesh Atid to the first sentence, moving "centrist" there from the last sentence, splitting the first sentence in two (due to length), and putting Minister of Finance into past tense. 123.51.107.94 (talk) 00:29, 11 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
