Renaming

[edit]

I'd like to propose renaming (moving) all of the following pages for consistency:

Since I have no expertise in this area, I'm not sure what the best "template" would be for the new titles, but here are some suggestions:

  1. All titles should begin with "Lists of" (in the first title) or "List of" (the rest).
  2. All titles should refer to "Y-chromosome DNA haplogroups" or "Y-chromosome haplogroups", or "Y-DNA haplogroups" (i.e., pick one for all titles to use).
  3. All titles (except the first two) [clarification added 08:19, 20 April 2012 (UTC)] should use the phrasing "in populations of X" or "in X populations" (pick one style). (Note: The use of "by" leads to grammatically awkward titles, so I wouldn't use it.)

Note that List of haplogroups of historical and famous figures is not included in this discussion because it already starts with "List of..." and it contains information about both M-DNA and Y-DNA. So... comments? Other suggestions? - dcljr (talk) 00:10, 20 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Revisiting this issue after several years, I've gone ahead and moved the titles containing "by populations of" (to versions with "in populations of"). I am not using the preface "List of". Next I will move the titles in the format "in X populations" to the format "in poulations of X", for consistency with the others. Don't worry, I will fix any double redirects. Just hang on… - dcljr (talk) 06:48, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

OK, done. (If interested, follow the links in the list above to see where each page ended up.) - dcljr (talk) 06:37, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, not only did I fix double redirects (there were actually very few), I "fixed" almost all single redirects, as well (I know, that's usually not necessary, but most of the old titles were so grammatically iffy, I felt it was called for). - dcljr (talk) 06:41, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
