Xbox 360 Backward Compatibility Software
I think that there should be a page to track this software, and when it is updated. Unfortunately, I am new around here, and don't know how to nominate this, or whatever the proper process would be.
- For more information of what I am talking about, see:
I just think that this could be a valuable listing. LobStoR (talk) 06:11, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
December 4th 2007 update
full official details can be found here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemupdates/20071204-features.htm maybe somebody should include this already to the article? :)
Cheers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.248.159.240 (talk) 08:15, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Article concerns
This article (as well as the other system software articles) seem to lean strongly towards: What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_a_directory and Wikipedia:What_Wikipedia_is_not#Wikipedia_is_not_an_indiscriminate_collection_of_information. The content is useful, but listing every little update isn't useful in my view. RobJ1981 (talk) 04:59, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- I can't speak for the other pages, but this article at least is not listing every single update/change. See the official Xbox.com website [1] for the full changelist of the last update and then check how it's listed on page - only a few of the bigger additions are here. I don't see how this page is much different then iTunes version history for example. SeanMooney (talk) 07:21, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
- someone moans on every page like this. however, everyone comes here to find this, therefore its useful and in Wiki's context. Its not as if its saying each game thats been updated. practically every single one has so far! Chocobogamer (talk) 10:50, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
pathetic edit war
guys how sad is it you're EW'ing over when the update is being released? look I don't like either term coz november is too precise when that could be 3 months if its the last day of november, and fall isnt a worldwide term and seasons being different etc. plus nobody is psychic -and- it could be delayed or have problems at the last minute (like if the problems with PS3v2.4 were noticed before release)
stuff like this shouldn't really be on the page pre-release but I feel to keep the peace, it should say 'before the end of 2008' rather than nov/fall. whats everyone feel about it? I know its a very loose term to use but we dont have a reliable source/confirmed date. The only definite thing is that it will be out this year chocobogamerLOOK AT WHAT I DID]] 19:23, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
Wrong Dates
Fall begins September 23rd and lasts until December 21st, not Sep 1st until Nov 30th. Last year the fall Update occured on Dec 4th and people from Microsoft said that fall lasts until Dec 21st, soit can be considered a fall update. It should be changed very soon--84.62.229.112 (talk) 18:49, 9 September 2008 (UTC).
- lets not have an argument on which fall/autumn is the correct one to use, its bad enough having people change it to 'november' besides, who actually classes early december as autumn? people refer to it as winter weather. BlackHawk262LOOK AT WHAT I DID]] 23:06, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- sure, december weather can be called winter weather. But that doesn't mean that is is winter. I just think that if microsofts said "fall" (which they did this year and last year) we must accept that if last year, "fall" lasted until Dec 21st (according to Microsoft) it will also do so this year. Also, december 21st is the day when the earth is titled the most in the northern direction.--84.60.199.190 (talk) 13:45, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
Late Fall is correct!
I recently changed "Fall" to "Late Fall" and then someone reverted this. In the Xbox Dashboard ads, it was said that Netfilx support will come "Late Fall". Since the Netflix thing is part of the Fall update, the fall update will come in "Late fall" according to Microsoft. If there is any newer information, I'm sorry, I don't know.--84.62.245.175 (talk) 20:49, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
The Xbox Live notice that went out a day ago (i think) said that Xbox Live would be down on Monday the 29th to bring the NXE online. Is that it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.136.202.49 (talk) 03:23, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- Nope! If you look on xbox.com they say you will not see the NXE, but its to change XBL to make it ready for when the update is uploaded. I have a mate working for Rare (who are developing it), he's not in the same room, but it has apparently gone gold, meaning that after testing (something Sony forgot with 2.4) it will be up soon, but most likely end oct/early nov. chocobogamerLOOK AT WHAT I DID]] 11:38, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Someone change it to late Fall or November
Hi,
I think there are sources that let us suggest that the update will come in Late Fall (the add on the dash says that NEtflix is coming in "late Fall", and this website: http://majornelson.com/archive/2008/10/01/starz-play-coming-to-xbox-live-by-way-of-netflix.aspx says that "That means, when the new Xbox experience ships later this year (and you’re a Netflix subscriber) you’ll have immediate access to over 12,000 titles to stream." So, as soon as NXE is out, we'll have Netflix.
November was confirmed by Rock Band and it has been here before. So I think there are a number of sources and someone should change it!--84.60.233.18 (talk) 10:02, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Has anybody stopped to think that November is the 360's 3rd birthday? chocobogamerLOOK AT WHAT I DID]] 16:19, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
!!! New Xbox Experience Almost Done !!!
A specific gamming site had a interveiw recently with one of the creators of NXE and they stated that it is almost done and there fixing bugs and making everything smooth for release in November . They also clarified that Gamerpics and themes are in use and gamerpics and avatars can be used at the same time . Example: When a gamer looks at his or her recent players list they will see your gamer-picture instead of your avatar, but when a friends request is sent and approved by you ,you have a choice whether to display your avatar or your gamerpic. Also if you have a Xbox Live Vision Camera you may take a pic of somthing or yourself and apply it on your avatars clothing. But they have hinted that it will be released in November but no specific date was said.
New update description is a joke
Why do people keep feeling the need to put descriptions next to every new feature. Its supposed to be a simple list of things that are new in the update like the rest of the article. Its just making the article look inconsistent and full of detials that dont need to be there. --Deathtrap3000 (talk) 21:06, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- NO, its not meant to be a simple list. Simple lists are against Wiki's policy, plus descriptions might as well be there, its not as if its taking 1 minute to load the page. And the previous update details are just as detailed but laid out differently. The layout for this update is easier to read and much better matching to that of the Wii, PS3 and PSP chocobogamerLOOK AT WHAT I DID]] 21:39, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Go and edit all of the other update lists then if its against wikipedias policy. Besides, when the update is released and all of the other features are visable, it will get very messy with all of them having descriptions. It already looks like a mess and it was better the way it was. --Deathtrap3000 (talk) 01:08, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
Leaked Info
I added some info about the NXE Leak. Can someone fix my formatting error? ----Otto888 (talk) 18:25, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see the purpose of mentioning the leak. What does it add to the article? It feels like it's promoting piracy rather than being useful information - in two weeks the update will be officially released and that sentence will be pointless. SeanMooney (talk) 00:40, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
- If not under the "upcoming features" header, then where? It was put in a section talking about the NXE, so that seems appropriate, no? Likewise, it's notable in this context, so it should be included. Please stop reverting without talking here, that's what leads to edit wars.
- If you're referring to me, I didn't revert anything... I just don't see how this is important to the article, every piece of software gets leaked nowadays. I could see adding it if there was some actual significant news behind it (if they caught/sued the leaker, or if it hurt sales and put the company out of business, etc) but there is none in this case. SeanMooney (talk) 02:49, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

not sure on relevance (after today its moot) but On Major Nelson's Twitter http://twitter.com/majornelson (linked on his blog) he says rollout starts at 2.00 PT (10.00am GMT, 8.00PM/9.00PM Australian time I believe) chocobogamerLOOK AT WHAT I DID]] 01:04, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
adding a 'preview' section
as i am a user of the current preview test version of the system software, i can easily confirm through ms connect the updates included in the preview, however, not the release date. i can confirm its more ongoing than people say - if theres an update coming on the 11 august, its not everything 'games on demand' for 360 games are listed as coming soon.. anyway, my point is that i could add a section below the updates list called 'current preview version' and list the details? this way people won't keep adding it to the main section when its not publicly available - and may not be for months chocobogamermine 11:02, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Maybe have it under "Future Updates" and mention that they are currently being tested. Mclarenaustralia (talk) 11:12, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
renaming / 'moving' page
all the other firmware pages have system software in small case - as it should be. For some reason the move option on my page is awol, can someone change it for me to make them parallel cheers chocobogamermine 00:38, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

"One Month Gold for every active Xbox Live Accounts."

I'm pretty sure that Guitar Hero: Roey Kelner (added 06:48, 26 April 2011 by user Roei635 as a "minor edit") isn't a game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.230.166.179 (talk)
Remove "closed beta" releases?
I think the closed beta software releases should be removed from the list because there is not much information about them anyway. This also gets confusing because if one were to list all the changes for the closed beta releases and the public releases, these changes would both be there 2 times.
Also beta users have all signed NDA's and therefore there actually should not be much information about them anyway.
Maybe there could just be a note somewhere that there was a beta program before.94.221.81.62 (talk) 13:12, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
- I am going forward with removing for now the 'closed beta' releases PRIOR to the latest stable release, meaning I am not removing any preview releases related to upcoming fall update. These are uncited for the most part, and redundant. I ask, do similar pages keep such a backlog of outdated beta releases. (ex. PlayStation 3 system software, iOS version history). I welcome discussion here of course. Thanks..... Josephberte-Talk 23:24, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
- I agree with the removal of the 'closed beta' releases, as they add nothing useful to the article and appear to be largely duplicative. It appears they were restored recently, so I removed them, as per WP:NOTEVERYTHING among other things. - SudoGhost™ 21:11, 13 June 2011 (UTC)

- Just post the change you want to make instead of forcing someone to try and spot the difference in a copy/paste of the entire article, please. The only thing I saw from my brief examination was changing the May 9, 2011 release date for version 2.0.13152.0 to Summer 2011. Is that the change you're requesting? — Bility (talk) 16:10, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Version number
I think we can solve this version number edit war by providing a reliable source for this number (or any source for that matter). After doing a quick Google search, I'm not able to tell how to discover the version on the xbox 360, and I have a suspicion that the edit war between the two version numbers may be due to a delay in when a specific area gets which update, it may not be rolled out all at once to all countries (though this is just a theory, and not rooted in any fact).
Is anyone able to find a source for this? - SudoGhost™ 00:30, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
- Well, after checking (I'm blind apparently) I found out that my xbox 360's dashboard is 2.0.13146.0. A source would still be nice, however. - SudoGhost™ 00:36, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Please provide a source (if possible), or at the very least an explanation for changing the version number. - SudoGhost™ 15:03, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, I am not sure if this is citable per se, however, the Microsoft offline download for the May 2011 release does have '13146' in the file name. To check for yourselves, go to thispage, and click either the USB drive or CD version, and both will have '13146' in the file name in the download link. Josephberte-Talk 08:19, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
Removed applications listing
I removed the list of all the apps as per WP:NOTEVERYTHING, it was unnecessary and contained more than a few possible copyright violations. Wikipedia is not a complete exposition of all possible details. Rather, an article is a summary of accepted knowledge regarding its subject. - SudoGhost™ 08:24, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
November 15 2011 Update?
Someone posted (IP: 24.33.124.111) that the next update is set for November 15th, 2011 but I cannot find this as a confirmed date anywhere, including the references that were used (reference numbers 4 and 5). The closest I could find was "Releasing this Fall". Is it such a good idea to have this dynamically stated release date without official word from Microsoft? I would recommend we change it to "Fall 2011" until further information can be found. The E3 video only states Fall release (I've reviewed it 3 times now) Quilnux (talk) 00:10, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- I removed that change by the IP, going back to the former way the time of year was mentioned.kiranerys(u,c) 00:37, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Fall 2011 Update Details are US-Centric
Posts aren't supposed to be regionally-exclusive. Since this Fall 2011 Dashboard Update contains different stuff for different regions, those should be reflected as well. As it sits, that chart only reflects US content additions, with a few offshore references. Canada has its own series of content additions, for example, that should be noted somewhere as well. I suggest listing all the content additions in that chart, and separating them by country? Shouldn't be that hard, I would imagine there's only a limited set of countries where unique content providers apply? I can start by noting the Canadian content additions at least. -OR- better yet, we just note that there are several regional-specific media content additions, and skip the list. There, that's a better idea.
