Family background
[edit]There is research about his complicated family background on this blog http://chater-genealogy.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/armenian-something-vivien-leigh-and-her_12.html which includes images of original documents. Prompted by this I have made a few edits, including about his mother.
Much of what is currently on the page about his family is contradicted by info on the Chater blog. For example his father was not "Percival Wallace Fielding" of the 50th Sikhs but Alexander James Lumsden Wallace of the 52nd Sikhs (Frontier Force). See also: The London Gazette, (18 July 1913 Issue 28738, Page 5144 and 6 April 1917, Issue 30011, Page 3344). Thus Xan's surname changed from his father's (Wallace) to an anglicised version of his mother's (Fielding). However what is currently there about his father has references: one is peerage.com which counts as not a reliable source (as self-published), another is to The Telegraph obituary (which is not on-line but is quoted here; http://patrickleighfermor.org/2011/06/18/xan-fielding-obituary-2/ ). The Telegraph obituary does not actually give his father's name but does say he was in the 50th Sikhs.
I am inclined to bring the page into line with the info on the Chater blog but thought I would pause and raise it on this Talk first. Nedrutland (talk) 14:50, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
