This article has been checked against the following criteria for B-class status:
The content, (much of which is my own) was copy and paste from the Wilson Main Page on wikipedia. It appears this is the reason it is flagging as copyrighted, not because the material is stolen. OgamD218 (talk) 19:54, 17 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OgamD218 this is definitely an interesting topic and so thank you for your work on it. I see you've added a LEAD, this is great. The lead right now feels a bit more like an essay than a summary of the article that follows. When I'm writing my leads I will generally go section by section and ask what 1-3 sentences can be used to summarize that for use in the lead. In this way the lead serves as an introduction to the article. I will note I did remove a sentence about the historiography of Wilson which matches my understanding as well but which is not reflected in the article itself. We should start with that and then can find ways to incorporate it into the lead. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 21:30, 18 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hey OgamD218! So I've been reading through the article. Do you think the sections on exclusions of blacks from administration positions and the segregation of the federal bureaucracy need to be separate sections? On one hand, it helps to have a break for readability, but the sections seem to have a lot of overlap. It might be better to merge these sections into a tighter section on treatment of blacks in the civil service/government or something like that.
Additionally, I like the section on the reaction by prominent African-Americans of the era, but I wonder whether that could be moved to the Assessment and Legacy section. The argument against that is that the Legacy and Assessment section seems to be more on contemporary scholarship, so reactions from the 1910s may not fit with the theme there. Again, both of these suggestions are not set in stone, I wanted to get some feedback first. Bkissin (talk) 18:42, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think a section dealing with contemporary coverage, both by African-Americans and Whites, and susbsequent historical examination are appropriate. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 19:02, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Barkeep49Bkissin The article definitely needs a lot of work imo. Part of the issue is the content was originally condensed to fit into the Wilson main page until buidhe said it should instead be a separate page altogether. I have plans of expanding and improve it but I also have limited time at the moment and am doing my best with it---Re merging the excl of blacks from admin aptmnts and segregation of the fed bureaucracy; that crossed my mind but I'm going to hold off for now-mainly bc both are going to be extnded and the distinctions between them will be more clear-though rn it is an issue that I apologize for. I'm leaning towards creating a new sec on W's cabinet and high level apps and maybe merging it with the exclusion sect. I'm not sure how to address the cabinet appropriately however, though not exclusively composed of-it was still dominated by racists; yet an incredible range of ideations was present; Burleson was devoted to institutionalized segregation, whereas McReynolds was a notorious personal though not so much political bigot; Josephus Daniels was a violent white supremacist, counted among the foremost leaders behind the Wilmington Massacre.---I agree there should be a contemporary views sec, I'm just a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out how to do that the right way lol. I do have a plan to expand the reaction/prominent african-americans, which will stand much better after.---Once again any and all ideas/assistance is def appreciated. "with his presidency serving as the lowest point of the Nadir of American race relations"
I don't think this something we can just put in the lede as plain fact. When the "nadir of race relations" was is vague, and different historians have different opinions on the topic. Eldomtom2 (talk) 20:06, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
