Split

[edit]

While the sections of this article are about wooden spoons in various competitions I think that they are not especially relevant to each other and should be split into different articles. violet/riga (t) 11:18, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Combined Histories

[edit]

Sydney Swans/South Melbourne have been placed as one but Brisbane Lions/Bears have not. Fitzroy were amalgamated with Brisbane also. Any comments? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.239.212.68 (talk) 07:19, 2 September 2007 (UTC) No argument from others, therefore combined totals for Brisbane equals 3 woodens spoons. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.239.208.43 (talk) 12:53, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Original research

[edit]

It seems to me that the MLS Wooden Spoon "Award" is original research. It is an unofficial award and not sponsored by any organization. KitHutch (talk) 16:17, 24 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm removing the tag. Nothing about it is originally researched, as doing simple math and simply reporting who is at the bottom of the table does not constitute original research per WP:OR. Your concerns seem to stem from notability, and the consensus at the AFD was that it was notable enough for inclusion at the page. That might change, however. Achowat (talk) 15:03, 16 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is absolutely original research. What everyone in the AFD consensus failed to grasp was the very "award" itself falls under WP:OR because no such honor exists. Yes, teams finish at the bottom of the table each year but this position has no official name or distinction. No where in any official source (MLS/club websites, press reports, etc.) is there ever mention of a wooden spoon. While it may be real elsewhere in the world, in MLS it is a fabrication by a minority of fans and nothing more. And with that being the case, finishing last by itself bears no true notability. Everything concerning MLS needs to be removed from this article. --Blackbox77 (talk) 17:25, 4 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Blackbox77 and have decided to be bold and remove the information. KitHutch (talk) 05:21, 5 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Six Nations

[edit]

I notice it say's that finishing last in the Six Nations meant the team would "win" the wooden spoon. What evidence do you have for this? I thought you only received the Wooden Spoon if you didn't win a match during the tournament so you still wouldn't need to lose all your matches. It would be like the Grand Slam and Triple Crown as it may not awarded every season. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 21:25, 18 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's always been the case that the wooden spoon is awarded to last place. The term for losing all games is "whitewashed". I feel there's certain fans who come on wikipedia and edit the six nations page because they don't want to acknowledge their team 'won' the wooden spoon that year. Does Golf have a wooden spoon? Tiger Woods

[edit]

This was in a cover story on CNN yesterday: "Tiger Woods not laughing at spoof Is Rory the new Tiger? It left him on level par 288 on the Isleworth Golf and Country Club course, near his Florida home, tied with Hunter Mahan for the wooden spoon." I've never heard of wooden spoon until this reference, so I came to wiki to find out more. This Wikipedia main article doesn't mention golf, and I can't say based on this one reference whether "wooden spoon" is a common usage in golf. For what it's worth, I thought I'd pass the info along in case others might know. — Preceding unsigned comment added by N0w8st8s (talkcontribs) 04:44, 8 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Unmerge MLS Wooden Spoon

[edit]

I propose the re-establishment of a stand-alone MLS Wooden Spoon article. The award has grown in prominence in the years since the decision to delete the MLS Wooden Spoon page was made in 2011. There has been a physical trophy passed between supporters' groups since 2015 and the award is recognized by the Independent Supporters Councils of North America. I am happy to take the lead on this project if given the go-ahead. OttomanFootfan (talk) 22:18, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
