Proposed merge of Ria Cortesio into Women in baseball
[edit]Does not meet GNG. Most of article is about female MLB umpires rather than her personally. Would fit better in Umpires section. MB 15:15, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose. The article, as I read it, is all about her. Cortesio is among the very few pioneering women umpires in baseball, and because she is in that class, a separate article seems fine. Yes, she should also receive mention in the umpire section, her spot seems to be right after the last sentence or added to the last sentence (added: Done). Good find, thanks. - Comment. I just expanded the Ria Cortesio article to more firmly establish notability; and since this has lingered here for six months without consensus, I'm going to remove the merge templates. Liannadavis (talk) 00:07, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

Context
[edit]This article would be helped by more context (in particular for people not very familiar with baseball). For example what is the relationship between baseball and softball? (As I understand it there is a bit of a gender difference between the sports, with baseball usually played by men and softball by women, is that right?) A bit more focus (in particularly in the beginning) on organizational aspects would also be helpful (for example to which degree there are leagues for women as opposed to individual women playing in otherwise male teams). It might make sense to merge it with Women's baseball, which covers a very similar topic. Gunnar Larsson (talk) 16:13, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

Page reorganization
[edit]As a woman who loves baseball, I'd like to clean up and reorganize this page, so I wanted to ask here for any input on how the page could be organized. I'm going to start off by doing an MOS:PARA pass this week, since the page currently has a pretty big problem with this. My current thoughts on how the page could be organized are into the following sections:
- Background section as requested above, explaining how baseball is a gender neutral sport, a little bit of background on baseball and the relationship with softball.
- History - an overview of the rules of women's participation in professional baseball, as well as women's leagues and other general history, generally organized by region then by time.
- Firsts for women in baseball - move anything that is about a "first" for a woman in baseball to this section. Should have subsections based on role (i.e., player, coach, broacaster, front office)
- Modern status - overview of the current status of woman in baseball, current players, managers etc.
- In popular culture - overview of women in baseball in pop culture, A League of Their Own etc.
Very open to any other thoughts on more sections or other ways the page could be organized. 🌸wasianpower🌸 (talk • contribs) 02:04, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
