[edit]I need to find a reference for this, but the land was privately owned until approximately 1993, where it was purchased by the Ojibway. At that point they closed the tree's access allowing only those who are "accompanied by a Native, a band member or a naturalist" as a sign says in the Grand Portage Heritage Center. --Ryanjcole (talk) 05:55, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
