How many times would WG win it?
[edit]There seems no reason why this concept should not be taken back to the date of the earliest known records although for most of that time you would be talking about the leading cricketer in England only (and in south-east England only at that).
But if Wisden went back to their own inaugural season they would be just in time to catch WG's debut. There can be few seasons between then and 1880 when he would not win and of course it was a one-horse race in 1895. I reckon Spofforth would be the first Aussie to win. ---BlackJack | talk page 14:38, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- All of the winners pre 1900 would have to be either Engliah or Australian. I'm tempted to do the exercise back to 1864 for my own amusment. Yes, Spofforth would probably win it in 1882. JH (talk page) 18:05, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
When is the award announced?
[edit]It would be interesting to know when the award is announced? Is there a ceremony involved? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.230.240.244 (talk) 11:01, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
- It is effectively announced when the Almanack hits the shelves, although there is usually a press release on the official release date. Not aware of any actual ceremony.ReadingOldBoy (talk) 07:59, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Who was the 2009 Leading Cricketer of the Year? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.171.215.228 (talk) 12:55, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
- See the note that I added today at the foot of the table, to hopefully clarify this. The most recent award is for the calendar year 2008, and is listed as "2008" in the table. However it was announced in the just published 2009 edition of Wisden. In the companion Wisden Cricketers of the Year article, we use the different convention of listing awards by the edition of Wisden, and it's potentially confusing that the two articles do it differently.
