"Episode 9" a repackaged pilot?

The first episode aired on 9 September 2008 was different in enough ways from other episodes (number of contestants, obstacles not used before or since, the Sweeper is "basic" and awarded no bonus prize) that it has the air of a pilot episode. Is there any way that this can be verified? --KPod 15:30, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Episode 7

Under the results for Episode 7, it says "no competition because of the Wipeys" or something of that variety. I think that maybe we should put in the information about the Wipeys, i.e. winners, nominees, etc.Savvy10 (talk) 15:51, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

Graph colourings

Don't re-colour the graphs in blue, red, yellow and green. The old colours worked far better.

Also because series 2 is starting tonight, should the series 1 episodes be moved onto a different page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.38.204.200 (talk) 14:28, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

"Jacob Mann"

I'm wondering, Is the Term "the Jacob Mann"- doing a split while landing on one of the Big Balls, and falling in the water- worth mentioning? It was adapted by the hosts after Mann's episode. Talk to the numbers, 24.190.7.178 (talk) 02:37, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

If it's mentioned by reliable sources other than the programme, then it may be worth mentioning. I've read a lot of comments (and even made a few references of it myself) on YouTube, but it'd need to be backed up. :) 94.192.52.244 (talk) 23:29, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Mention of UK remake

I don't think this warrants a mention (or maybe it does..):

In January 2009, several international versions of Wipeout debuted. The British version of the show is called Total Wipeout and is hosted by Richard Hammond. The change in name was due to the success of the original Wipeout game show in the UK. Total Wipeout became an instant British hit. The UK version of Endemol USA's format beat BBC One's daily average in 2008 by more than 50%. Total Wipeout scored by far the best result for a premiering show on BBC1 for the Autumn 2008 and Winter 2009 season.[citation needed]

I mean, there are several international versions, and Total Wipeout has its own dedicated Wiki page, so surely this would fit better in that article than in this one, which is afterall concerned with the original US make? I'll edit it to mention a few other countries that have broadcast their own versions. 94.192.52.244 (talk) 23:29, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

The Graphs

12? Why don't you add all 24? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.101.229.235 (talk) 00:07, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Because not all 24 are mentioned - just the highlights of the qualifier are seen, and then the top 12 are shown on the screen. 173.88.62.240 (talk) 19:27, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Rename?

I think we should rename this article to "Wipeout (ABC game show)", seeing as there is currently a 2009 season. Any thoughts? —Preceding unsigned comment added by VmKid (talkcontribs) 00:22, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

That thought certainly has its merits, but for example, the two American Gladiators article have (1988 game show) and (2008 game show) added to the end, even though these weren't the only seasons. My opinion is that we turn this into a main article, create a season 1 article for season 1-specific information, and then do the same for season 2. 173.88.62.240 (talk) 19:29, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

This would be consistant with other similar shows, such as I Survived a Japanese Game Show 63.227.152.123 (talk) 14:55, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Contestant Nicknames

Why has someone gone through and removed all of the nicknames ("Mr. and Mrs. Moose") from the contestant listings? 63.227.152.123 (talk) 19:55, 9 July 2009 (UTC)

I have two opinions about the nicknames. First, I find them not only useful for each contestant, but also an integral part of the listings. On the other hand, the nicknames take up space and are distracting for people who just want to know the names of the contestants. Is there a way to reformat the listings so that the names and nicknames are listed separately (i.e. Millahnna's comment above) to satisfy both sides? Palladmial (talk) 01:44, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Look, i removed it because it is useless as mentioned above, they are distracting so just leave it the way it is. --Captaincharisma98 (talk) 17:19, 13 July 2009 (UTC)Captaincharisma98

check closely

look closely at the competitors that were listed under the wipeout all stars episode 11 of the 2nd season. did you notice something? i noticed that all the competitors are from season 1, which means that they are probably making a separate all stars episode for season 2 sometime in season 3. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.191.123.187 (talk) 04:15, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

Why are Official big ballers removed? Same with Sucker Punch crossers.

I am new to the wikiworld or whatever you wanna call it. But before I signed up today,I checked the Wipeout ( American gameshow )and noticed you haven't put the crossers of the Big Balls and the Sucker Punch. I just think somethin' ain't right about that - Smartone99. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smartone99 (talkcontribs) 11:44, 26 September 2009 (UTC)

Okay

Listen this is too out of hand. If you vote to put the nicknames say I vote for the nicknames and if you don't put I Vote to not put the nicknames. So, people leave it the way it is for now until we discuss this issue. Please. If it is edited with nicknames i will unedit. Simple.Thank You --Captaincharisma98 (talk) 18:59, 16 July 2009 (UTC)Captaincharisma98

I vote for the nicknames. They're an important part of each episode. It's fairly rare that the contestants are referred to with their actual names; the hosts rely on nicknames. Someone who was only able to view a section of the show may not be aware of anything other than the nicknames, and this would make the table here unhelpful.

Furthermore, the nicknames were in this article for a long time. Unless other discussion was removed, you removed the nicknames, then backed up your argument with one (after the fact) opinion. The nicknames should not have been removed without discussion. Next time, please host a discussion beforehand. ADifferentMind (talk) 22:23, 26 July 2009 (UTC)ADifferentMind

Okay, the nicknames were NOT Here before somebody just decided to put them there for a reason. Actually, i support a 2-Topic thing like List of Wipeout episode (without nicknames) and List of Wipeout episodes (with Nicknames). I Dunno, something like that. It's way too confusing, people are saying that there useful and other say it's confusing and takes space. --98.194.251.45 (talk) 21:14, 29 July 2009

I vote for nicknames. ADifferentMind covered my reasons. I understand the complaint that the table has been getting cluttered, however, the separate article for episodes address this problem nicely. Millahnna (talk) 15:43, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

The detailed episode list was split off to List of Wipeout episodes on July 17. I think discussion about nicknames in the list article should be at Talk:List of Wipeout episodes. I'm against nicknames in the short episode results at Wipeout (2008 game show)#Episode results. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:26, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

I vote for nicknames. My reason has been covered by ADifferentMind and also the fact that nobody even uses their real names, just their nicknames. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.191.123.187 (talk) 06:50, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

I vote FOR nicknames of both the full episode lists & the short episode results F4M !! 04:01, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

I DEFINITLY VOTE FOR NICKNAMES I call all of the contestants by their nicknames so why take them off. It just seems stupid to take them off - Smartone99. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smartone99 (talkcontribs) 23:56, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

Should I put the episode guide in a different topic

I Was editing the page and it said something like this

This page is 100 kilobytes long. It would be appropiate to split it into a smaller article.

Should i make an Episode Guide for Wipeout or just leave it like that. --Captaincharisma98 (talk) 17:24, 13 July 2009 (UTC)Captaincharisma98

I support splitting the list of episodes into a separate article called List of Wipeout episodes to be consistent with Wikipedia naming like List of Total Wipeout episodes. The main article could leave a small table showing the winners. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:28, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
That seems pretty useful to me. Could add back in those nicknames I want so much (I can't seem to figure out which episode I'm looking up without them). Millahnna (talk) 03:20, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Listen, the nicknames are completly useless as mentoined above. Why can't we just put a seprate part that has nicknames and no nicknames. Also, they take up alot of space and are distracting. So i am completely against it. --Captaincharisma98 (talk) 15:48, 16 July 2009 (UTC)Captaincharisma98
Yes. I agree that the episode list should be on a separate page. It's starting to take up quite a lot of space and just trimming it won't do. Dziamdziamdziam (talk) 15:49, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Okay, so i will do it right now, if i made a mistake so say so. --Captaincharisma98 (talk) 22:35, 13 July 2009 (UTC)Captaincharisma98

The split suggestion is only 5 hours old and you made the list less than 1 hour after I placed {{Split sections}} on the article. Please give other people a chance to reply, for example a couple of days. There is no deadline. The creation [1] of List of Wipeout episodes had several problems, including a misformatted one-line lead, a missing season heading and key at the start, a GFDL violation by not following Wikipedia:Splitting#Procedure, and no categorization. As I suggested on your talk page, I think you should let a more experienced editor perform the split if there is consensus for it. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:37, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
There is clear support for the split. I have performed the split with this edit to Wipeout (2008 game show) and this to List of Wipeout episodes. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:04, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Oh my gosh. That is so smart. Why didn't I think of that? -Smartone99 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smartone99 (talkcontribs) 23:59, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

"Episode list" should be removed

As it is currently presented, the "Episode list" section has way too much information in the tables (24 contestants per episodes, what they did at each level, etc.). The article is already being overwhelmed with the tables (keep in mind that all of this is unsourced!). Already this has too much undue weight in the article and should be removed. 147.70.242.40 (talk) 01:10, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

24? I count 12 contestants per episode table. Although you're right about the unsourced part, the order doesn't always add up with the events shown in the episode. But to be honest I really find them useful in a way. Doc Brown NL (talk) 16:34, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Remove It's not like this is a sporting event, the "episode guide" should be removed. --Lakeyboy (talk)

Keep Can single broadcast TV episodes be cited..? If so, referencing should be easy. If not, referencing isn't possible. I also find the tables useful. ntnon (talk) 15:41, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

{{cite episode}}. --Geniac (talk) 14:38, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Keep Useful information about the show, and the sources are the episodes themselves. See. [[Wikipedia:RS#Primary.2C_secondary.2C_and_tertiary_sources|WP:RS]: "Primary sources — writings on or about a topic by key figures of the topic — may be allowable, but should be restricted to purely descriptive explanations of the subject or its core concepts." A listing of contestants and who was eliminated in each round requires no interpretation and is purely descriptive. PaulGS (talk) 06:52, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Keep I was actually coming here to suggest adding a column for the contestant's nicknames, if that would be appropriate. The Jo(h)ns tend to refer to them as such (Deadbeat Daughter, The Winner, et al.) and it seems helpful for people looking for info about each episode, such as myself. Millahnna (talk) 01:16, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Remove it. I am coming to suggest to make a page for episodes and winners and other crap like that. I am also suggesting to put a table next to it for ratings. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smartone99 (talkcontribs) 00:05, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

Location

The location for taping of the Qualifier rounds are at Sable Ranch. http://www.movielocationrental.com/. When viewed on Google Maps, it appears to be the exact place. Notice how the parking lot is laid out, and when you watch the show it appears just out of view behind the starting ramp for the Qualifier. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.190.118.194 (talk) 23:36, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

This statement is either not true or needs to be qualified: "due to ABC's policy of not revealing where its reality shows are taped". The location of Extreme Makeover (Home Edition) is always revealed -- as is The Bachelor(ette) franchise when they travel to exotic locations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.128.198.190 (talk) 16:05, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
No need to qualify anything. The google and bing map links are nice to have in the article and are sufficiently backed up by references to local film guides including one of the Santa Clarita Film Office. Not clear why this information has been removed several times. I find it interesting that the most recent removal was from an anonymous IP address in Studio City, CA and the IP address narrows down to the home of a TV producer, at least in the references I'm seeing. Hmmmm.--RadioFan (talk) 11:50, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Something occured me...

I think Winter Wipeout might be a spin-off of Wipeout. Shouldn't information on Winter Wipeout be moved in a different page as well as the episodes? 76.238.240.169 (talk) 03:40, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

I think it should, but let's wait until the summer to see if ABC counts those episodes as season 4 too, or season 5. 65.39.13.223 (talk) 18:51, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

It went to a different page since it took too much space - Smartone99 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Smartone99 (talkcontribs) 21:05, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

The reduced list here at [2] was removed in [3] one hour before the post by Badjsp who also posted at Talk:List of Wipeout episodes#Bring this section back again. There was no edit summary in the removal and no prior discussion. The detailed list is still at List of Wipeout episodes. There was wide agreement to move the detailed list to its own article in July. The question is whether to restore the reduced list which had a table row instead of a whole table for each episode. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:22, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Could there be a link somewhere to the list of episodes? I was looking for that info and only found out by coming to this discussion page that it existed as a separate page. 174.116.186.183 (talk) 01:40, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

There's a link in the infobox near the top of the page. It's pretty standard to have a link there for TV show articles. Millahnna (talk) 01:57, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Coordinate error

{{geodata-check}}

The following coordinate fixes are needed for Wipeout: Current coordinates (34°22′33.96″N 118°24′40.68″W / 34.3761000°N 118.4113000°W / 34.3761000; -118.4113000) is incorrect. The correct coordinates are 34°22′35.15″N 118°24′42.21″W / 34.3764306°N 118.4117250°W / 34.3764306; -118.411725064.121.78.65 (talk) 20:15, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

coordinates look ok to me. article says:The show is taped at Sable Ranch in Canyon Country, Santa Clarita, California, about 40 miles north of Los Angeles. Coordinates link to what looks like the set of a wipeout type program (not watched this season specificaly), and the words "sable ranch" are clearly visable 200m n of the set, with santa clarita six miles to west.IdreamofJeanie (talk) 20:56, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

CZ + SK

Interesting fact. Czech and Slovakia had one team together and both hosts were present for both countries. Thus Slovakian audience had Czech commentary as well and vice versa. I would a)emphasize which host belongs to said country and/or b)add second language in the column --TakeruDavis (talk) 18:35, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

While the fact that the show is still on the air makes it clear the copyright infringement claim didn't stop it, it'd be good to have slightly more closure within the article ... e.g., info as to whether the suit was dropped, dismissed, settled, whatever. After all, I for one find it amazing that the producers can straight-facedly say it's 90% Fear Factor (a show it resembles almost not at all) and only 10% inspired by the shows that it looks exactly like. Having the details on how the claim officially was resolved would be helpful for people like me, who came to the article to refresh memory as to which particular show they'd copied only to be amazed by the producers' account of the development. (Eventually I figured out the show I'd had in mind was Ninja Warrior [the U.S. name].) Lawikitejana (talk) 01:00, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Playing the game

How does one play wipeout? This page only describes it as an obstacle course. Do you automatically lose if you fall off? I guess the information I am looking for would be similar to explaining how one plays Jeopardy! Answers are read to three contestants who guess the correct question. For each successful question, players are awarded money (in varying increments). Wrong answers lose money. There are also daily doubles, yada yada yada. In short, what are the rules to this gameshow? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.15.147.3 (talk) 00:10, 9 February 2012 (UTC)
