Double DYK

[edit]

AleatoryPonderings Nice work over here too! Could we get a double DYK nom in, do you think? We lose the potential for as interesting hooks, but it's cooler, imo. Eddie891 Talk Work 00:23, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Eddie891, I'm more inclined to interesting-ness over duality, but if we can think of a cool hook with both included, that'd probably be ideal? AleatoryPonderings (talk) 00:27, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
AleatoryPonderings: Fair enough. You could modify your original proposed hook to read the following Eddie891 Talk Work 00:37, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Could work, yeah! Given how much better drinking fountains in Philadelphia is than this start-class piece, though, it'd seem better to highlight drinking fountains over Swann. Maybe something like this? AleatoryPonderings (talk) 00:46, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, that might work, but I don't think the article exactly states that anwhere? Eddie891 Talk Work 00:48, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also some notes:
    • whom he reportedly freed I don't think there was anything reportedly about it
    • obituary puts death at March 14
    • Wife's name was Maria, there might be some good content on the two here, imo
  • Anyways -- Eddie891 Talk Work 00:48, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks—unclear where I got March 21 from. You're right re: the hook. But I feel like I've read the animal welfare thing before, so it's probably sourceable; just can't remember where that info was at present. Think I may take a break from Mr. Swann for the next while, in any case. AleatoryPonderings (talk) 00:57, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
AleatoryPonderings Yeah sure, you deserve it! Do you mind if I put them up for a double dyk nom, before I forget? I'll look for the sourcing... Eddie891 Talk Work 01:26, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Eddie891, Yeah, go right ahead! And feel free to pick whatever hook you prefer—no need to look for sources to support my preferred hook if you're doing the nom, haha. (Tbqh I actually *couldn't* put this up for DYK myself, at least atm, because I'd need to do two QPQs and I feel like I always mess something up on a DYK review …) Thanks for all your hard work on our Philadelphian duo these past few days. AleatoryPonderings (talk) 01:29, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
AleatoryPonderings cool! I will of course credit you and Lockley-- this is definitely one of the best team efforts I've been involved in. Check out what I found wrt your sourcing: By making free fresh water amply available, Swann hoped to promote temperance and relieve animal suffering. He explained that these goals were intertwined. “The greatest enemy to temperance, morality and virtue, is more or less associated with thirst. Many a good man, from necessity, is often driven to gin shops and places of debauch, where water is provided to his suffering beast, and he in return is expected to go in and spend his hard-earned wages at the bar.” Thirsty pedestrians as well might be expected to choose a draught of water rather than a saloon keeper’s offering. Ha, I'd never thought of a bar as, in the first instance, a place to drink *water*. The 19th century was truly a different time … AleatoryPonderings (talk) 01:35, 26 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
