Peace College still stands as a woman's college with a rich history.
This institution should still be referred to as Peace College. While the current president has announced a decision to take the college on a new path no changes have taken effect yet. It was announced that in the fall of 2012 the college name will be changed to William Peace University and will open its doors to men. The alumnae of the college are protesting these changes. We would appreciate the college be treated with respect and understanding during this turbulant time. The change of name posted to Wikipedia is premature and incorrect! - Emotions aside, the title of the wikipedia article should reflect the official name of the school. Title changes should not be viewed as disrespectful to alumnae or the school. It is what it is. Now that the school's website identifies the school as William Peace University, it's time to change the article title. A link will be provided from Peace College to this article to ensure no one gets lost.--RadioFan (talk) 20:49, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- I'm reverting your move as the website still predominately says "Peace College." Have patience, please; we'll move the article when the common name of the institution changes (which will surely happen very soon). ElKevbo (talk) 20:53, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- The media uses the new name, the university uses the new name in press releases. The source of the controversy is unhappy alumnae, nothing else. The article title should align with the official title of the university. Moving the discussion to requested moves to gain consensus.--RadioFan (talk) 22:31, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: not moved. Until such time as the new name becomes substantially more common than the old name, our guidelines dictate using the old name. See WP:Official names. Aervanath (talk) 20:45, 31 May 2012 (UTC)
Peace College → William Peace University – This school has changed its name and has begun using the new name on its website. The time has come to delete this redirect to make way for a move of Peace College to William Peace University Some alumnae have opposed the name change, creating some controversy but with the local media using the new name and the administration using the new name in press releases [1]. While the old name does persist in some spots on the university website, that will change in time. The article title should reflect the official title of the university.--RadioFan (talk) 22:33, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- Too soon. The institution isn't even consistent in its use yet. Give it a few weeks; we're in no rush. ElKevbo (talk) 23:27, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
- They plan to launch a new website and fully integrate the usage of the name at some point this summer. Until then, the website states at the very beginning that they are doing business as both. [2] DavidSSabb (talk) 16:37, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
- Which can be easily handled with a redirect from the old name to the current name. An additional reliable source which has made the change to the current name is U.S. News and World Report in their university rankings--RadioFan (talk) 21:46, 27 May 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose. See WP:official names and WP:BALL. No case made in terms of WP:AT. Andrewa (talk) 02:57, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: Move. This is clearly what the institution will be called in reliable sources from here on. Cúchullain t/c 15:32, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
Peace College → William Peace University – It's time to revisit this discussion. Google search results show 458,000 results for "William Peace University" and now only 301,000 results for "Peace College". In fact, the only results on the first page of a Google search for "Peace College" are articles from prior to May of 2012, a redirect page for William Peace University's new website, and this page. Wikipedia shouldn't be the lone holdout in a sea of actual, palpable, permanent change. All University websites and all North Carolina press now refer to the institution by its new name. See, for instance: http://www.newsobserver.com/2012/11/06/2466778/north-carolinas-congressional.html I believe that WP:official names and WP:BALL support this. - Support Compare to this move and this one, both of which dealt with universities or their subunits being renamed after name changes. I'm usually a big WP:COMMONNAME fan, but I see absolutely no benefit to maintaining the former name of an educational institution in most cases. How does it help readers to retain the old name? --BDD (talk) 20:02, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
- Support per nomination and above comment by BDD. It appears that the official name is William Peace University now. -- JoannaSerah (talk) 20:19, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
