The article disputes itself

His grave may be in England. The article claims that he died on 18 August, 1813, after being wounded on 24 August, 1813. Apparently, he died on 15 august, 1813, one day after being wounded. Velocicaptor 14:15, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch. The original info was from DANFS. Checking the NHC at http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/pers-us/uspers-a/wh-allen.htm, we see they cite the same date of the battle (14 Aug vice 24 Aug) suggesting that this was a typo in DANFS. Given that this subject is a Naval officer, perhaps we can go with the Naval Historical Center as the more authoritative source. Jinian 19:03, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See USS Alligator (1820) for another controversial statement. I removed the link to William H. Allen which had been on that article. There must have been another "Lt. William H. Allen" who was killed in 1822. I suspect that another mistake exists. I hope that it isn't simply vandalism. Velocicaptor 21:25, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A1 in section names?

[edit]

What is the significance of A1 in the section names? If none, please remove it. --DThomsen8 (talk) 01:20, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Generally, weird formatting or text is good evidence of copy-pasting, which is WP:Copyvio. If you can locate the source, the relevant parts of the article (or perhaps all of it, in extreme cases) should be deleted. HLGallon (talk) 01:54, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
