Wild Carrot (band) → Wild Carrot – The plain title is sufficient to distinguish the topic from Wild carrot per WP:DIFFCAPS. Seems unlikely that anyone searching for the plant would capitalize "Carrot", since all-lowercase typing is becoming the norm online. The hatnote at Daucus carota would also read more smoothly if it just said, For the band, see Wild Carrot instead of For the music group, see Wild Carrot (band). —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 02:12, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose I'm not sure its sufficient give the plant has 5,705 views and the band only has 22[[1]]. Yes its a common name not a Latin name but I don't think its enough so probably like Friendly Fire and Red Meat "Wild Carrot" should be a DAB page instead. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:24, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- A disambiguation page seems excessive when there's only one other topic the term could refer to. Page views don't seem to be relevant; the question is whether "Wild Carrot" is likely to be significantly confused with "wild carrot". I doubt it will. The hatnote exists to clear up any remaining ambiguity. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 13:20, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. Clearly disambiguating by capitalisation of a single letter is unhelpful. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:51, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- WP:DIFFCAPS says otherwise; see Iron maiden / Iron Maiden and Ice cube / Ice Cube, for instance. Just like these titles, Wild Carrot is also more WP:CONCISE. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 02:52, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- DIFFCAPS has always been controversial and has often been ignored at RMs. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:30, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- I see no reason to ignore it here. Calling it "unhelpful" is not convincing. What logical reason is there to consider "Iron Maiden" unambiguous but not "Wild Carrot"? —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 03:05, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
- There is none. That's the point about the unhelpful nature of DIFFCAPS! -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:24, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
- So you wish to create a WP:LOCALCONSENSUS that goes against established WP:PG? Wouldn't it be more productive to try and get the guideline changed outright? —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 11:40, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
- No, I'm merely pointing out the reality of the situation, which is that many editors oppose DIFFCAPS and RMs are often closed in opposition to it. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:40, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
- How often is "often"? if it's most of the time then shouldn't the guideline be changed? —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 22:54, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
- I think it needs to be asked if capitalization is sufficient to have the title case version go to a different topic. I'm a supporter of SMALLDETAILS and supported moving the Friendly Fire DAB page to the base name as I agreed the title case version has no primary topic even if the lower cases does but we're here talking about having a different topic primary and I have concerns based on the page views and the fact species (unlike common nouns) are commonly capitalized. DIFFCAPS says "When such navigation aids are in place, small details are usually sufficient to distinguish topics" but it does need to be questioned its its sufficient here. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:41, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
- The navigation aids in question could be as simple as a WP:HATNOTE at the top of each page. This shouldn't be a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC issue since wild carrot is virtually never capitalized when referring to the plant. Friendly Fire makes sense as a DAB page because it's the title of multiple works that are normally capitalized. That's not the case here. —Sangdeboeuf (talk) 22:58, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose, based on this NGram, which shows that there has been some use of the capitalized "Wild Carrot" long before the existence of the band. BD2412 T 16:55, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose and keep as is. (No dab page). The plant wild carrot is the primary topic, whether capitalised or not. As Necrothesp notes, DIFFCAPS for this sort of title case/sentence case split is a highly controversial area, and even the previous poster-child example of Red Meat is now a dab. Given the relative obscurity of the band relative to the plant, a dab page isn't called for here either. — Amakuru (talk) 13:49, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
