Cricket match
[edit]I'm not sure I believe this:
- The first recorded cricket match in Great Britain was played on West Malling's cricket pitch. The event was visited by Charles Dickens.
There are cricket matches recorded in the 18th century and even earlier (see History of Cricket for example), while Charles Dickins wasn't born until 1812! I know the source cited is the BBC, but it's an article written by (I presume) a local resident introducing "Where I Live", so probably wasn't thoroughly verified. Sounds a bit like Chinese Whispers to me! --RFBailey 12:09, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
It clearly isn't true so I have changed it. Furthermore Chris Evans moved out about 10 years ago!
Time for a rewrite?
[edit]As a local(ish) resident, I think there is a lot more that could be said about West Malling - the current article leaves a lot to be desired. I have made a start with a separate section for the airfield, and a new section about transport. I will arrange for some images over the next few weeks, and will try to bring a better structure to the article. The skeleton I have in mind is something like:
- physical description
- town hill
- high Street
- street market
- brewery
- history
- particular historic buildings
- Abbey
- church
- St Leonards Tower
- Ford House
- historic people associated with the town
- events
- magical mystery tour
- cricket
- transport and communications
- the airfield
- road
- rail
- Kings Hill
Please join in with any ideas of your own. Regards, Lynbarn 09:56, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
a historic? or an historic town?
[edit]It seems either use is acceptable, so I've reverted to the original...

Chris Evans
[edit]I don't know about Chris Evans moving out over 10 years ago, but I don't recall him ever moving in. I always thought that when he lived in this area it was in Nettlestead? Danno uk (talk) 12:24, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
Transport - Rail
[edit]The last sentence correctly states that the railway services to London Bridge and Cannon Street have been withdrawn, but it refers to a previous date in the future tense, so this needs removing or ammending. Note also, the serices to London Bridge and Cannon Street were withdrawn in January 2010 and not as currently stated in the article.
Also, as Cannon Street and London Bridge are no longer destinations from West Malling they should be removed from the list of destinations in the first sentence of this section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.140.121.246 (talk) 01:09, 5 February 2010 (UTC) :Good point, thanks. that has now been done.
