map data licence

[edit]

Quote from article :"Free map data published under open content licenses was available before the Waze project began, but Waze CEO Noam Bardin felt that Waze was fundamentally different from projects like OpenStreetMap and was wary of map data licensing that would restrict commercialization of the Waze service[7]." What is the map data license? (188.180.255.151 (talk) 21:45, 17 May 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Besides, data of OpenStreetMap is also allowed to be used commercially... -- Kr51-2 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:30, 29 January 2012 (UTC).[reply]

Old Screenshot

[edit]

The screenshot used in the article reflects an outdated version of the software. Having the software on my own phone, would it be appropriate to take a shot and provide that to be used here, or should such shots come from the software maker themselves? References at end of History paragraph

[edit]

I wanted to clean up the wording in the last sentence. I wasn't sure I understood it, so I started to look at references. No mention of Arik Gilon found on these pages:

http://israel21c.org/technology/waze-steers-you-clear-of-traffic-2/ (first of four refs)
http://www.bizjournals.com/sanfrancisco/news/2011/10/18/waze-raises-30-million.html (second of four refs)
http://investing.businessweek.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=58203778 (third of four refs)
http://www.techcentral.co.za/social-network-paves-the-waze/30348/ (fourth of four refs)

I removed the text mentioning Arik Gilon. -- Jo3sampl (talk) 22:03, 23 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Takeover by Google Price Contradiction

[edit]

In the introduction paragraph, Waze is said to have been bought for $1.3B. In the History / Takeover by Google section, it says Google paid $966M.

Please clear this up. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.170.100.207 (talk) 04:25, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Name of the Product

[edit]

Is it a misspell of "ways". If so, it should be mentioned in brackets. Galzigler (talk) 17:14, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. The pronunciation remark just got removed today, and I think this is improper. I've heard hundreds of people mispronounce, including in Israel. (Personal experience; I was just there.) These people usually pronounce it "wah zee." The proper pronunciation should be included at the top. Alanoftheberg (talk) 19:59, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As a Waze employee, I can testify that it's pronounced as in "ways" (IPA /wejz/). "was zee" is a wrong pronunciation. --N0nick (talk) 08:08, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Class Action Suit Against Waze

[edit]

Since someone has removed reference about Roadmap, I have included it back in the impending class action suit brought by accountant Roy Gorodish against Waze...

A class action suit was made in March 2014 by accountant Roy Gorodish against Waze, claiming intellectual property violation for the use of open-source FreeMap map and codes from the open-source RoadMap software, a project which Ehud Shabtai had contributed for the Windows PocketPC version[46] in 2006. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jualmahal (talkcontribs) 06:29, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Use in Iran

[edit]

Iran once block the use [1] of the app in the country due to its Israeli origins, but it found its way back, serval times. Even for protests [2]. Sokuya (talk) 20:32, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WAZE was NOT developed by Google

[edit]

Dear Wikipedia team. Please note that WAZE was NOT developed by Google as indicated in your review. Waze was developed by WAZE Mobile in Israel. Google bought WAZE Mobile in 2013, but did not develop it. Thanks for your attention. Issac Agam Los Altos, CA. 96.68.156.162 (talk) 06:09, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Did you read the article? It clearly and pointily states in the lead section, 2nd paragraph, "The software was originally developed by Waze Mobile, a company in Israel founded by Israeli entrepreneurs Ehud Shabtai, Amir Shinar, and Uri Levine; two Israeli venture capital firms, Magma and Vertex Ventures Israel, and an early-stage American venture capital firm, Bluerun Ventures, provided funding. In June 2013, Waze Mobile was acquired by Google." P37307 (talk) 06:36, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And Wikipedia articles are not reviews. InfiniteNexus (talk) 03:52, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What does "de-in" mean?

[edit]

"enabled partial de-in of the users"

I've never seen "de-in" before. What is that supposed to mean? Nakonana (talk) 19:49, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like the phrase was accidentally altered. It should be "de-anonymization". Indefatigable (talk) 18:28, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
