Steam locomotives
[edit]I have always supposed that this water tower was used to supply water to steam locomotives at the station, and that it became obsolete in the 1960s with the transfer to diesel locomotives. Can we find a source to support this? If other editors are confident that this is accurate then we we could add it with {{citation needed}}. Verbcatcher (talk) 19:18, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
- Oops, I have just seen that we already have "previously used to supply water to locomotives on the Great Western Railway" (I searched for "steam"). I will change this to steam locomotives. Should we point out that the tower became obsolete with the end of steam?
- "...on the Great Western Railway" may not be whole story, because trains to and from destinations such as Crewe may have been run by other companies. Verbcatcher (talk) 19:27, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
