Variations on "Theater for Children"
[edit]Over at List of Broadway theaters, I changed "Robert F. Kennedy Childrens' Theatre" [incorrect apostrophe usage] to "Robert F. Kennedy Children's Theatre" [correct apostrophe usage], after looking at this Walter Kerr Theatre article to see the spelling used here. I was reverted by Found5dollar (talk · contribs), and, yes, it turns out that the Internet Broadway Database calls it the "Robert F. Kennedy Childrens' Theatre" with the apostrophe after the S and the final word spelled with -RE.
Checking the sources used here, I find two or three different names, all with the -ER spelling. The book Bloom 2007 calls it the "Robert F. Kennedy Theater"; the 1973 NYT source uses "Children's Theater" in the headline and "Robert F. Kennedy Theater for Children" in the text; and the 1976 NYT source also calls it the "Robert F. Kennedy Theater for Children".
I suggest that the contemporary NYT sources are more likely to be correct, and that we ignore the spelling used by the IBDB. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:18, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
