Peddie School

[edit]

What about the mentioning of the $100 million dollars that he gave to The Peddie School in New Jersey?

Annenberg fought discrimination

[edit]
I read a biographical article on how Walter Annenberg discovered Palm Springs in the 1940's and 50s. I wasn't able to find a link to connect with what I stated, but he helped establish golf resorts and hotels in the Palm Springs area. Annenberg, as an American Jew claimed to experience overt discrimination in private clubs and four-star hotels in the time this was common by anti-Semitic attitudes by the owners. In 1948, he co-founded the Tamarisk Country Club next to his "Sunnylands estate" in Rancho Mirage. His clientele were Hollywood celebrities, although large numbers of them were "ethnics" or White Europeans not part of the WASP group (White Anglo Saxon Protestant). Annenberg fought injustices and prejudice against Jewish and Italian Americans, including his celebrity friend Frank Sinatra. He was a victim of a kind of anti-Jewish discrimination of his time, but what he done is opened the doors for others like him in private clubs and public hotels, Annenberg gets an applause in social causes for all Americans. --Mike D 26 05:06, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why is there a link to that virulent obituary page at the bottom? It is without a doubt overly critical of the man, and also opinion based. (e.g. he was friends with Nixon, the 'detestable' Frank Sinatra, etc.) First of all this is fairly irrelevant, second of all who doesn't like Sinatra? and third, if we are to condemn all men who are either (a) politically conservative, or (b) are to be judged based on the sins of their fathers, there isn't much room to write a nice obituary for anyone. I think the link is ridiculous and should be removed. --User:Pkmilitia

I don't like Sinatra.

However I think the link seems a useful corrective to the rather fawning tone most articles apply to billionaire philanthropists. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Claverhouse (talkcontribs) 05:03, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lifestyle Needs Update

[edit]

Re: "...gatherings with such people as President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Charles, Prince of Wales and the late Mohammad Reza Pahlavi."

Not only is the Shah of Iran (whose title bears mentioning for those not up on such things) deceased, but everybody on the list except Prince Charles and Nancy Reagan is now "late."

My suggestion is just to replace "the late" with "the Shah of Iran" or "the former Shah of Iran," whichever was the case at the time. Dick Kimball (talk) 16:19, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
