Merge
[edit]I was bold and merged the WJCT (TV) and WJCT-FM into this article. They're run together by the same entity, so there's no real benefit to having separate articles (and just a dab page located at WJCT).--Cúchullain t/c 18:17, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
Split proposal
[edit]I propose that this article be split into separate pages called WJCT (TV) and WJCT-FM. The content of the current page seems off-topic and these sections are large enough to make their own page. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 19:57, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
- I disagree. It’s one entity that does radio, tv, and web. There at least needs to be a base article covering the entity.—Cúchullain t/c 14:46, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Cuchullain: Too soon. We need to get other users' opinions and seek consensus. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 15:21, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- Split into 3 articles. I agree with the split as other combination radio/T.V. operations are done this way. However, I also agree that there can be a base article covering the parent organization.Stereorock (talk) 14:54, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- @Stereorock: Here you go: WJCT, Inc. - future article on the parent organization. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 15:11, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks! That keeps in line with other articles like WGBH!Stereorock (talk) 16:12, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- WJCT is the logical place for a base article. I’ll be restoring it and working on the article here. There’s no real need for sub articles on TV and radio, but if people want them, they can be split off from here.—Cúchullain t/c 16:04, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- Comment. There is a need for individual articles about WJCT (TV) & WJCT-FM as these are 2 separate stations with 2 distinct licenses & histories. Yes, they are under the same ownership, but that's all they really have in common. Convention is each licensed station gets its own article unless that station is part of something like a regional network, which neither station is. For what is being proposed, the WGBH pages are a good place to start.Stereorock (talk) 16:09, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- That's not accurate. The TV and radio stations have always been part of the same organization since radio was added in 1972. Their histories aren't separable, and there's no reason to have separate articles if there wasn't an article on the organization itself, as that's the notable part of the subject.--Cúchullain t/c 18:26, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- WGBH & WGBH-TV have always been under the same organization too. However, they are separate stations because of broadcast service, programming, etc.. WJCT should cover the organization, WJCT-FM should cover the radio station specifically, & WJCT (TV) should cover the television station specifically. Sorry for the delay, just saw this.Stereorock (talk) 08:28, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
- That's more a flaw of the way Wikipedia has handled these articles. But if folks want separate articles for TV and radio, there's no reason they can't also exist in addition to the base article on the whole organization.--Cúchullain t/c 13:48, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
- Which is what there should be, with each station’s article containing detailed information about that station, & the organization’s page contains information about the organization itself, with very rudimentary information about the stations (frequency/channel, etc.).Stereorock (talk) 15:51, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

- @Stereorock: Here you go: WJCT, Inc. - future article on the parent organization. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 15:11, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- Support: The television and radio stations should be broken out into separate articles. Such action would necessitate expansion of the content in the existing WJCT article with appropriate citations if any are available. A separate article for WJCT, Inc., however, is questionable and probably unwarranted at this point. Whether locally originated broadcast licensees (mostly public broadcasting and commercial radio groups) warrant standalone articles is a case-by-case issue as some may not have appropriate citations or information to necessitate the creation of such an article. As such, I think that a split into two articles makes more sense. TVTonightOKC (talk) 16:35, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- The sources for WJCT as one unit are as strong as the sources given in either article now. Readers would benefit more from one decent article than from two poor ones. That's not to say the TV and radio branches can't have their own articles as well, if the sources support that.--Cúchullain t/c 18:26, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
I'm going to restore the WJCT article so I can keep working on it. The current setup is a mess, with the material on the WJCT website under the radio station's article. As for consensus, the WP:BURDEN is on the editor introducing a major change to find consensus for it. The article has been stable for five years.--Cúchullain t/c 18:26, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
- I reverted the technical move. This isn't eligible for a technical move as it's obviously challenged, as you know from participating in this discussion. The current setup seems the best way to handle things for readers. We'd be much better off if people spent less time moving things around and more time improving the content.--Cúchullain t/c 13:30, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- Cuchullain, You unilaterally reverted the move without even discussing it at WP:RM/TR before Anthony Appleyard moved it. BTW, are you even from the Jacksonville area? Mvcg66b3r (talk) 16:56, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- Mvcg66b3r: I had no way of seeing it at WP:RM/TR until after Anthony moved it. Again, this is not eligible for a technical request since - as you knew - it wasn't uncontroversial. And not that it matters where I'm from, but I am from Jacksonville and have edited dozens if not hundreds of articles on the area.--Cúchullain t/c 17:28, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

WJCT → WJCT, Inc. – This is more of an article for the parent company of the TV and radio stations, which already have separate articles. A disambiguation page can be created. Mvcg66b3r (talk) 17:06, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. This article is on WJCT as a unit covering its TV, radio, and online presence, which is much more in line its actual structure and how sources refer to the entity.[1][2] As such it works well as a WP:BROADCONCEPT article summarizing the TV and radio articles as well as material not covered at those, like the historical background of the organization and the online branch.--Cúchullain t/c 17:41, 30 July 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. Under Wikipedia:Naming conventions (companies), business entity suffixes are NOT added to business entities' article name unless there is a need to disambiguate. As the TV station has been disambiguated to WJCT (TV), there is no further need to disambiguate the parent organization further as it is a some what of a summary article including various WJCT articles (WJCT (TV), WJCT-FM). Thus like the primary subject, thus is the appropriate article at the non-disambiguate article name. Spshu (talk) 12:02, 31 July 2019 (UTC)
- Support If WJCT, Inc. is the name of the organization, then that is what the article about that specific topic should be called. Make WJCT a disambiguation page for WJCT, Inc., WJCT-FM, & WJCT (TV). This keeps with WGBH & WNYC.Stereorock (talk) 08:32, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
- The organization is much more commonly known as just "WJCT".--Cúchullain t/c 13:49, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
- But, what is its legal name? That’s the one that should be the article’s name too. The colloquial name could be a redirect.Stereorock (talk) 20:21, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
- Article titles follow the WP:COMMONNAME over the official names. "WJCT" is far and away the common name - and is officially used by the organization, including in its own logo.--Cúchullain t/c 15:34, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

What I think should be changed (include citations):
There are several things on this page that are out of date because of changes to the organization's services in 2020 & 2021. As I declared above and on my user page, since I work for WJCT Public Media, it would violate Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest policy for me to make these changes on the page directly, which is why I am only requesting these changes. Some of these changes have been reflected on the WJCT_(TV) and WJCT-FM articles, but have not been updated on the main WJCT article.

- @RayHollister: I'd like to take care of this request. Can you be a little more specific reg. WHERE to implement some of the changes? For example, the first new name, Jax PBS:
- * Is that the new name?
- * What does it replace? Does it replace "7.1" in the table? Does it also replace the Heading "WJCT-TV" below the table?
- As soon as you clarify my doubts, I'll get on in. Otherwise, if it's more work to clarify than edit it yourself, you can place the suggested edits right here, and I'll check them and implement if OK. Ferkjl (talk) 08:27, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
