Spelling

[edit]

The Portuguese Wikipedia has this page: [1]. The spelling used there is Vinícius de Moraes, Marcus Vinicius da Cruz de Mello Moraes.--Oxonian2006 13:45, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I moved the page to include the proper diacritic. I am not sure about Mello vs. Melo. Anyone have references? - AKeen 16:58, 28 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vinicius de Moraes never used an acute accent over the i in his first name, thus Vinícius is not the proper diacritic.Dyt 06:56, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any evidence for this? He was born "Vinitius" according to his biography, but Vinícius is the usual and popular modern spelling. In ictu oculi (talk) 01:29, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Vinicus as a Diplomat

[edit]

IMHO, is quite worrying that there is no mention whatsoever in this article about Vinicius career as a diplomat. --Pinnecco 00:10, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

What about this? Vinicius_de_Moraes#Advanced_studies_and_early_career. It's clearly mentioned. As for more detailed info, you're welcome to add it, but frankly Vinicius' music changed the world much more than did his diplomatic work, wouldn't you say? --Paul Richter 01:00, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Performers

[edit]

I'd like to trim out the long list of performers. It's not very informative, since pretty much every Brazilian, Latin, Jazz, or Pop (to use the categories from the article) artist worth a bean has recorded at least one of de Moraes' vast number of great songs, if only "Ipanema" (and I imagine the list already includes people who only recorded the awful Gimbel lyrics). We already mention those people most closely associated with him; that should suffice. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 06:11, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. This information doesn't add any significant value to the article. We don't list everyone who has performed a symphony of Beethoven... Viajero | Talk 20:45, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Same goes for the ridiculously long list of his "most popular songs". I've removed all songs that I don't know. :) I suggest other contributors remove the songs you don't know, thus trimming it down to a reasonable size. -- Paul Richter 08:39, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with all the above statements. I'm removing the extraneous list - AKeen 17:41, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Someone put the list up again, and I've removed it again. Macgreco 18:54, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, his birth name was different

[edit]

He was born Marcus Vinitius da Cruz e Mello Moraes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.71.242.164 (talk) 02:38, 19 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First Verse at 3yrs old??

[edit]

If it is true great, but the article says he was born in 1913 and wrote his first verse in 1916 - at 3yrs old. FACT tag added. - Webjedi (talk) 00:22, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Who is this article all about??

[edit]

An artist considered as one of the most important brazilian poets of 20th century, whose works exist in almost any anthology of contemporary poetry throughout the world, and has been translated into dozens of languages simply does not deserve such a deminutive opening statement, which is perhaps fair and funny for MPB wannabe fans, but is still unjust, unbalanced and misguiding. Furthermore, the biography is confusedly intermingled with bibliography, then all of a sudden a new paragraph with bossa nova aperas, without competently explaining about VdM's motivation toward reaching a broader audience with his verses. Also, collaboration with great Oscar Niemeyer (as set designer for "Orpheus of the Conception" in Municipal Theater in Rio de Janeiro) is ignored. All of a sudden, the mixed-criteria paragraph "Cinema Recognition and Collaborations" (ignoring his authorship of the screenplay for the Black Orpheus) concludes with his collaboration with Baden Powell, which IMHO deserves a little more to be said. Same may apply to his collaboration with Toquinho. The official brasilian page may give a few hints [2]78.1.169.186 (talk) 20:14, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Francisco Tenório Cerqueira Júnior

[edit]

The article has nothing about the pianist Francisco Tenório Cerqueira Júnior. A big Vinicius' friend.Agre22 (talk) 01:32, 9 August 2009 (UTC)agre22[reply]

Devil or Dog

[edit]

I changed the translation of "cão engarrafado" to "dog in a bottle" instead of "devil in a bottle". Cão may refer to the Devil, but in this context I'm sure it carries the literal meaning (dog - man's best friend) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.32.179.14 (talk) 03:59, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
