Ashkan Dejagah
[edit]Is there a reason somebody keeps changing Ashkan Dejagah's nationality from Germany to Iran? Dejagah is a U-21 German international, and is also listed as German on the official Bundesliga site (same page in English). If anyone has an issue with this and good grounds to change it, please use the discussion page unless it ends in an edit war. Kopfballungeheuer 21:56, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Nickname
[edit]I often see Wolfsburg referred to as the Wolves. But this is English. Surely their nickname, if they have one, is in German? What is it ?Jatrius (talk) 09:26, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
- Well, "Wolves" in German would be "Wölfe" - the town's name means "Wolf-Castle", so the name translates. I've no idea whether this really is their nickname though. I've seen one UK paper referring to them as the Werkself - the "Works XI" but I don't think I could find it again to cite it. 82.163.43.10 (talk) 11:49, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- Ignore me - the Werkself are Bayer Leverkusen. Either I remembered the paper wrong, or the paper got it wrong. 82.163.43.10 (talk) 11:54, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thats probably a pretty common nick in Germany for clubs associated with a particular company/industry. Wiggy! (talk) 18:16, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

- The nickname is really "Wölfe" (German for "wolves"). As explained by 82.163.43.10, it is derived from the name of the town. Here is an example source using the nickname.
- Bayer Leverkusen is nicknamed "Werkself" as they were originally composed of workers of the Bayer corporation ("elf" being a German word often used for a football squad, since they have 11 players). Regards SoWhy 18:55, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
What does VfL stand for?
[edit]This important item has been omitted. Mdw0 (talk) 08:14, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
- Verein für Leibesübungen – this could be translated as "club for gymnastics" or "club for exercises". --212.77.186.48 (talk) 15:54, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
football club?
[edit]no, vfl is a sportsclub - they have other sports then football as well. and in football, they also have a remarkable women's team that should be mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.226.42.9 (talk) 20:42, 28 May 2013 (UTC)
- I have added short information about this. EriFr (talk) 10:29, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
Notable players list - inclusion criteria?
[edit]This notable players list probably needs an inclusion criteria. At some pages, the notable players list is treated as a list of "famous players who once played for this club". I can understand that, but not even that seems to be the case with this list. I can not at all see why players such as Jesper Christiansen, Mahir Sağlık or Danijel Ljuboja are considered notable players of VfL Wolfsburg? I almost looks like this list has turned into one of these "players from my country who once played for this club"-list. Best regards. /EriFr (talk) 08:22, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
- You are completely right, I noticed that too today when I reverted some IP adding a non-existent player (himself?). I certainly wouldn't revert you if you deleted the list. Like discussed at RB Leipzig, the inclusion criteria should be a set number of games played for the club (100?) or having made appearances for a national team while being with the club. I wonder if Wolfsburg has a hall of fame like some other clubs. Calistemon (talk) 09:08, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
