Discrepancy in early years information
[edit]Her father, a doctor, died when she was seven years old. When going over his accounts after his death, Felton's mother discovered that though her husband had a large medical practice in San Jose, there were no records of his patients' payments for treatment and no cash in the office. Shortly before her father's death, Felton had performed in a local benefit for victims of the Galveston Flood.
This section does not make chronological sense. The page states Verna was born in 1890 and that her father died when she was 7. The Galveston Hurricane/Flood happened in 1900. There is no way she could have performed at a benefit for the hurricane a few months before her father died if he died in 1897.
Given the source of the information is Verna herself, speaking in an article, I wonder if this is a case of her misremembering the specifics of show she performed in, but she remembers performing in a benefit so thought that was it. I am more inclined to believe her remembering her father died when she was 7.
I am not sure of the proper Wikipedia protocols for fixing cases like this, but my thought is that it might be easiest to just remove mention of the flood/hurricane.
Any thoughts? Thanks!

Impossible timeline
[edit]Not sure how to correct an impossible timeline without seeing the source (paragraph references a book) where either the dates are wrong or the word “before” should read “after” or whether the age listed at the time of her fathers death is incorrect.
The article states:
“...Felton was born in Salinas, California, on July 20, 1890. Her father, a doctor, died when she was seven years old... ...Shortly before her father's death, Felton had performed in a local benefit for victims of the Galveston Flood....”
Based on the statements, of she was in fact 7 at the time of her fathers death, he died after July 20, 1897 and no later July 19, 1898.
It then goes on to state that shortly BEFORE her fathers death she performed in the benefit for the Galveston Flood. However the link to the Galveston Flood says it occurred in September of 1900.
This timeline is therefore impossible but I’m apprehensive to change it not knowing which aspect is incorrect (perhaps it should read she was 10 when her father died or perhaps she was 7 and it should read “shortly AFTER her father death (ie about 18 months)...
Can someone advise me what is done in situations like this please. Yellowphone (talk) 15:26, 23 April 2020 (UTC)
I did some research and found a couple of records indicating here father died in May of 1899 (just before her 9th birthday) and so updated her age in the article.

This article provides good insight into her getting into performing in 1900 at the age of 10 which is the same year as the Galveston Flood.
