Move discussion in progress
[edit]There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Venezuela Crisis of 1895 which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 22:45, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
Requested move 28 June 2023
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: No consensus, especially in light of the reservations about the proposed article title. Because there is also an argument that the current crisis is the primary topic, and because other alternative titles have not materialized, I will leave the pages here rather than do a WP:NOTCURRENTTITLE close. The title Crisis in Venezuela has been mostly stable since it was moved there per Talk:Crisis in Venezuela/Archive 1#Requested move 6 August 2018. - Venezuelan crisis (disambiguation) → Venezuelan crisis
- Crisis in Venezuela → Crisis in Venezuela during the Bolivarian Revolution
– Venezuela has had too many crises over the years (see dab page). The proposed title is a former title of this page. Srnec (talk) 03:08, 28 June 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. SilverLocust (talk) 03:58, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Comment The Chavismo crisis proposed name is confusing, it looks like it should be about Venezuela at the time of Simon Bolivar, and the collapse the Spanish Empire or the collapse of Gran Colombia -- 64.229.90.172 (talk) 06:58, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- To be clear, yes, the the disambiguation page should be moved as proposed with the generic title pointing to it. -- 64.229.90.172 (talk) 05:34, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
- Agreed that this seems too generic, but the proposal seems a bit too generic as well. The article isn't clear on the timing, the years 1999, 2010, 2014 and later are mentioned, when did the actual crisis start? --Joy (talk) 11:57, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nomination. There are 13 bulleted entries listed upon the Venezuelan crisis (disambiguation) page, with no top-listed entry to clearly specify the putative WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 21:38, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
- Support the proposed title. Considering how no specific date on the beginning of the crisis has been produced, I think simply stating that it's "during the Bolivarian Revolution" is best Presidentofyes12 (talk) 12:51, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose: The current crisis in Venezuela is unprecedented in the country's history, and there has not been a nationwide collapse so profound since the Federal War in the 1850s. That means that per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC there's really no ambiguity with other articles: major news outlets simply use "Crisis in Venezuela" to refer to the current situation, and nobody thinks about the Venezuelan crisis of 1895, the Venezuelan crisis of 1902–03 (better known as the 1902–03 naval blockade, which is actually its title in Spanish) or the Dutch–Venezuelan crisis of 1908 when thinking about the "Crisis in Venezuela". Other crisis are already distinctive enough and titled accordingly, namely the banking and diplomatic ones, and the current crisis is so broad that it encompasses four of the other articles listed in the disambiguation: the Venezuelan refugee crisis, the 2013–present economic crisis in Venezuela, the energy crisis in Venezuela and the Venezuelan presidential crisis.
- I also share the concerns voiced by other editors, and issues regarding the timing can be fixed by improving the article's content, instead of changing its title. --NoonIcarus (talk) 20:42, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose per NoonIcarus. WP:RECENTISM notwithstanding, the current crisis is the deepest in the country's history, the most sought-after title, and the propoed alternative name is utterly confusing. Don't fix if ain't broken. No such user (talk) 16:13, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- Support no need to pick the top crisis, title this one meaningfully like all the other. Is broken, please fix. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:40, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Support in principle, the ambiguity is crazy high here. I recommend that years be used to differentiate the current crisis from prior ones. Red Slash 20:59, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
