Merge of Variator (variable valve timing)

Valvetronic greatly reducing pumping loss.
[edit]I cannot see how the Valvetronic system can greatly reduce pumping losses, as it only changes the throttle mechanism and does not eliminate it. In a conventional setup, there is a throttle mechanism in the intake manifold; in the Valetronic system, the throttle mechanism is the valve itself. The intake of air still has to be throttled. The only difference is that the Valvetronic system may achieve throttle control more effectively than a throttle mechanism in the intake manifold, which could possibly result in a slight increase in efficiency. Certainly the way the way it is written gives the impression the pumping losses due to a lack of throttling are largely eliminated.
