Drake & Vanessa
People magizine reports that vanessa also sent provocative photos to Drake Bell while she guest starred on "Drake and Josh". Would that be considered a credible source, or not? Keep in mind that even though Drake's representitive says he never got the photos, Drake and Vanessa have the same representitive. Just wondering. Someone please help me out here. here's the quote on jake's page "In a twist to September 2007's Vanessa Hudgens nude picture scandal, People revealed that the High School Musical actress once sent risqué photos of herself to Bell, though Bell's spokesperson stated that "Drake says he never received those photos."http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20055444,00.html"Xylogirl07 22:24, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Nude Photos
Ok, now that we know the nude photos are real and not just a rumour, do we mention it? 65.81.132.252 20:56, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- It's still not particularly notable, in my opinion, though it no longer violates WP:BLP unless there's a credible claim that the photos aren't her. --Yamla 21:10, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
- Still dubious, myself. WAVY 10 21:28, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

- If those are, I would imagine there would not be a HSM3. WAVY 10 16:11, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- Disney has NOT confirmed that she has been fired. The link given on that information is to a known gossip site. I think this information is very dubious. Disney employed Lindsay Lohan long after she had done worse things than this. The girl makes them money, Zac Efron will SURELY not sign for HSM3 without her, and the kids will not watch it. Disney still cares about bucks, and this is not a decision they would make right away. I do not trust this information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.138.42.218 (talk) 12:36, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
- So I read on MSN, but frankly considering its source (gossip site), I would need a top level source to determine what needs to be done. WAVY 10 16:08, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

- "Vandalism" seems inappropriate; at worst it's a copyvio. Why the big warning against linking to the photo??? It illustrates the subject in question. Get some perspective and don't be such fanboys. I've never heard of this woman or any of this "HSM" crap until Bill Maher mentioned this nude photo on his show. 71.246.26.93 11:44, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- You're kidding, right? It's a negative image, and it's tabloid content clealy inappropriate for an encyclopedia, especially for a site children visit all the time and an entry that probably is on the top of her search results. It's common sense to enforce a no link/post policy on the picture, and there's other sites that can (and have) post it.

- And trust me, I'm not a fanboy of hers; I'm more into different and older actresses with more acting chops than Vanessa has right now. But clearly there is a need to make sure idiots don't run hog wild and turn her article into junk. That's why we're so protective, and also because there's libel laws that could threaten our project if we did post it. We're not going to put this site in danger because of that. - That being said, they're highly inappropriate for this site, and would definitely be cause to endanger the site under the TOS Wikimedia Foundation's ISP governs us under. Not to mention that if the date the picture was taken is confirmed as before she was 18, that's even more cause to avoid posting it at all costs. I think most of us refuse to endanger our project just on the off chance that's true. I won't argue this further, because it's clear on the fact the picture was used to disrupt the article, thus meeting the vandalism guideline very easily, and we refuse to have it happen again. Plus it is needed info many people do not know it and therefore it should be in the trivia section of HSM EVEN as a past trivia because it relates to the movie, Plus here because it relates to both his article and HSM 1&2 _____.:!Ninja!:._____ 20:34, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
- I originally agreed that the info won't be relevant in 10 years but after browsing through several articles I'm very surprised why so much debate is focused on the inclusion/exclusion of this info. The Jennifer Aniston article mentions her relationship with Adam Duritz and it's not even cited. The Natalie Portman article mentions her several brief relationships with several actors. The Jake Gyllenhaal article mentions his dating situations as well. These are just some examples. Some may say that this relationship with Efron and Hudgens is just casual dating but then again so were the examples I just mentioned. You can argue that Wikipedia is not tabloid and I for one have argued for this in the past but this doesn't stop people for including info if its cited. (Refer to Fergie's article and her "onstage incident". It doesn't get more tabloid than that.) My point is, if you exclude this info, then why would you allow the same type of info present in other articles? It seems unnecessary to be nitpicking on this and the Zac Efron article. ----Ðysepsion † Speak your mind 22:14, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

- Her appearance is fairly similar in High School Musical. The only main difference is hairstyle. All the easily available current photos are probably licensed by Disney. I'm going to put the pic back in, and I'll look for another one. Bpogi92 23:14, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- Never mind. I will leave it as it is for the moment. I've requested permission from the webmaster of Vanessa Anne Online to use one of the pics on there. Bpogi92 00:03, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- If you're unable to get permission from the webmaster, I can try taking a (somewhat low-res) screenshot/screencap from High School Musical--do you know if that'd be copyvio? Weien 00:09, 18 February 2oo4 (UTC)l
- Oh, and any particular reason for not putting it (the original pic) back in for the moment? ^^ Weien 00:11, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
- No not really; just too lazy. thing, and I am not sure what exactly that means when it comes to copy-vio. The TV Tom thing dates back to March, which was before you posted it here, but I'm still not sure. Anyway, the main reason I removed a lot of the text was the break of Wikipedia:NPOV, for instance, lines like "Vanessa is able to incorporate both backgrounds into her daily lifestyle" (??), "there's no doubt that her talent will get her there", "which she showcases her abilities as a triple threat", "This role shot her to stardom as she become known all over America. High School Musical has even gone world-wide, exposing Vanessa to the world!" (and especially the "!" after many sentences). This is all not exactly neutral. I incorporated, however, most of the actual information into the article as it is now. As for the trivia, some of it was already in the article, some of it was redundant; I suppose some of it could be put into a "Personal life" section ("Trivia" sections in themselves are un-encyclopedic). I know I seem to be too harsh, but basically these are the kinds of standards we should aspire to. See Larisa Oleynik, Amanda Bynes or Mandy Moore for neutral, well-organized and fully sourced (citations for where you got the information - reliable sources like interviews, for example - are important) articles that are in Wikipedia:Good articles status. Hope that helps... Mad Jack 04:20, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Fan site
Ok, Vanessa Anne Online is just a fansite, and whenever I try to add Vanessa Anne Network, people keep deleting it. It's a newer site and I like it, and I know a lot of people that like it, so that's why I put it on here. They have good updates on that site and they have a good forum too. They keep us updated on Television Appearances and other stuff too. I first read about the Emmy Nominations for High School Musical on there, so they're pretty good at getting news about Vanessa. I believe that it should be aloud to be added on here in the external links section along with Vanessa Anne Online, because it is not a "spammy" website. It's a good website with the biggest Vanessa forums.

- More basically we can't use the nude picture as it is a picture of a living person that requires a copyright release that meets wikipedia rules. It effectively has to be a public domain picture, which the nude picture isn't. Every picture is copyrighted by default by the photographer. Someone would have to prove they took the picture and overtly release it under a license that wikipedia would use. This is the same for ALL pictures, bio pictures are the most strict. --NrDg 13:43, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome for the picture.
Thanks to my free time, I was able to service to you all with a photo of Vanessa Anne Hudgens.
The picture is from IMDB and all respects are to the publishers itself. I assume you all know that it's for the terms specified on the information page of the image.

- I removed this tag because it should only be posted on the image pages themselves. As for your picture, it seems to have been deleted. The only pictures that we're apparently allowed to put in the header are free pictures (i.e. ones that Wikipedia users or others took themselves and allow free use of) or promotional images designed specifically to promote the person in question. Of course, we can always sneak in other pics, like screen shots and the like, and hope they don't get removed. Mad Jack 01:04, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Vanessa Hudgens
I think its time the article's name be moved to "Vanessa Hudgens". Because her singing career has often refered to her as such. Even though I personally like it as "Vanessa Anne Hudgens", I think its time to do so. Tell me what you guys think. ЅυđÜѕєя85 Talk to me 13:08, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Yes, I think is time to rename the article..... I like better "Vanessa Hudgens"...and as musician she is refered like that
Sounds good to me; she goes by Vanessa Hudgens, doesn't she?
I oppose. As an actor, she's credited as Vanessa Anne Hudgens. She's originally an actor, so it should stay as Vanessa Anne. Pink moon 1287 19:48, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- I also oppose this. You should go with the full name if a person is ever referred to by it, especially if it is how it is originally credited. It avoids future difficulties if other Vanessa Hudgens surface later too. Tyciol 00:22, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
I also agree that we should rename it as Vanessa Hudgens. We could leave Vanessa Anne Hudgens as a redirect. User:StarbuckDude
I also think it should be Vanessa Hudgens; more and more she is credited without the Anne.
Her most popular fan website, http://www.vanessa-hudgens.com, does not include Anne.
- Fan sites don't matter, and that's easily done to make the URL shorter and easier to remember. It is immaterial. Tyciol 00:22, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Also her official myspace does not include it. http://www.myspace.com/vanessahudgens
- Same as above, web addresses are not valid arguments. Tyciol 00:22, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- They don't just mean the web address, they mean the title of the page, the graphics, etc, which all use "Vanessa Hudgens" only. Tamajared (talk) 00:32, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Filipino, Chinese, and Puerto Rican (from her mother); Irish and American Indian (from her father)
Hudgens is half-filipino as her mother is pure filipina. I also believe that the "Other names" section be deleted as it is not a totally different name, it just removed the second name of Hudgens. kathzzzz® 10:47, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Unless some distant relatives of hers were hookers it just wouldn't happen. Looking from the outside at US claims to ethnicity it is clear that many people clutch at straws. A big one is the Irish connection. Many people in the US claim to have Irish blood when what they mean is that some old decendent they never met came from Ireland a hundred or more years ago. They've never been to Ireland or anything. If you follow all this ethnicity stuff back I am in fact part English, part ape! Cls14 00:09, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
- Well, she is half-Filipino, so it doesn't surprise me with the litany of supposed ethnicities. Filipinos are know for grasping at ethnic straws and "embellishing" their family pedigrees. It's practically a Filipino pastime. A good article to read about this on Wikipedia is the colonial mentality article.--Wambeter 09:42, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Can you see if that interview has a link or something or verify it from another source? C1s14, I know many people with more blood mixed in than Ms. Hudgens.
I looked up a bit regarding Filipino ancestry. There is the native Filipino ethnicity, but her mother's family name is Guangco, which is the Philippine version of a Chinese sir-name. And quite a few of the Chinese who came to the Philippines in the previous century inter-married with the Spanish colonialists and the native Filipino people, so the part of her being part Chinese and Spanish would probably be true. In terms of Irish blood, we're talking about ethnicity here, and not whether one has been to their land of origin or anything like that. I am third generation Chinese (both my maternal and paternal grandparents came from China) but I have never been there. My culture may be a hybrid of many things, but ethnically, does that make me any less Chinese? 203.214.5.103 02:10, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- You are incorrect. The fact that Ms. Hudgens' surname is Guangco is NOT proof she has Chinese ancestry. Guangco, and the similar Cojuangco are names from the Catálogo alfabético de apellidos, a list of surnames the Spanish colonists created for the native Filipinos to choose a surname, as pre-Spanish era Filipinos usually only went by one name. Most of the names were of Spanish origin, but many were words from other languages, including Chinese (Chua, Fang, Quinzon, Yi, Jonson, Hizon), Malay (Gadya), Arabic (Sulayman), Catalan
(Ortells, Llop, Puig, Lletget) and Basque (Echevarria, Labadia.) There are even surnames from Latin (Rex), German (Ymbrecht), Italian (Buffardessi, Parco) and English (James, Burton, Gray). There are also surnames whose origins are unknown: Odgial, Lundete, Bux, Cheregumi, Yaeld, Zaerg, Jevod-vod, Gaxual, Fuñigan, Coppocopyo, Gleyoni, Heorlas, Nealloc, Niex, Micarabungbung, among many others. So a native Filipino could have chosen the surname Guangco and not have Chinese blood at all. Also, as to Ms. Hudgens having Spanish ancestry, the chances are very small. According to a genetic study, no more than 2% of all Filipinos had Spanish ancestry. This was because there were very few Spaniards in the Philippines to begin with. So having the name Guangco doesn't prove what you say. The reason why this is so contentious is because many Filipinos engage in pedigree forgery. You should read the Wikipedia article, colonial mentality, for more information.--Wambeter 10:58, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- It doesn't matter what her ethnicity really is. I doubt anybody really knows the totality of their greatn grandparents origins. The article includes a direct quote from her. The quote reflects what she believes and the article makes no judgment of the truth or falsity of her personal beliefs, nor should it. Unless anybody can find a reliable source that discusses this issue, we can't say more than we do now as otherwise it would be original research. --NrDg 16:16, 21 October 2007 (UTC)
- I was correcting the statement by 203.214.5.103. Having a Chinese surname in the Philippines is not proof of Chinese ancestry. As to your statement that nobody knows the totality of their great-grandparents, that's false as well. Many people of all backgrounds take genealogy quite seriously.--Wambeter 06:38, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Her Voice Type
I think she is a great singer, so I would like to know further about her range and whether she is a soprano or a mezzo-soprano etc. I personally think she is soubrette but Britney is one and Vanessa's voice is stronger, but Vanessa's voice has the sweetness of a soubrette. So Id appreciate any ones views on this. Many thanks! :D 82.12.250.153 20:29, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
She is a indeed a soubrette I believe. She nearly has a 2 octave vocal range which is around average for a singer. The higest note she hits is an A4 which is taking you into Soprano territory but due to as you say the sweetness of the voice and the development of the voice I would feel more comfortable classifying her as a Soubrette. 82.12.240.47 23:44, 7 September 2007 (UTC)

"Update: It was just a matter of time, Hudgens has been fired from Disney, saying "it was irresponsible of her to do what she did." Adrienne Bailon, star of 'The Cheetah Girls' will replace Hudgens in the role of Gabriella."

In a statement, Disney said it hoped Hudgens had learned a valuable lesson. "Vanessa has apologized for what was obviously a lapse in judgment."
A Disney representative said the photo would not affect its decision to cast Hudgens in the third film of the "High School Musical" franchise and that negotiations for the cast and creative team were continuing.

I hear that the nude pictures may have actually been taken around 2005, before Vanessa even became famous, and that they were emailed to Drake Bell and leaked somehow. Does anyone know if this is true? I heard this from a bunch of gossip sites. DisgruntledEditor 14:54, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

- She's born December 14, 1988. While the photo showed up this September 2007 at which time she was 3 months shy of her 19th birthday (being 18) it's true that we don't know when the photograph was taken. Most likely it was taken recently and showed up immediately, or it was taken a while ago by a friend (she mentioned mistrust) and then they got in a fight and he posted it, or someone got the picture from her friend, something like that. If it waited more than 9 months to surface then it would indeed by child pornography by most laws. This is the difficulty with photos I guess, you can never really tell how old the ones on the cusp are. If it does turn out to be a year old or something, then that'd probably put at least half the population of the United States in jail right? Tyciol 00:25, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
Publicity stunt
Any reasonably intelligent person should have no problem deducing that this whole photo affair is nothing more than a publicity stunt. Shes following in the footsteps of Paris Hilton. However, I can't find any reliable sources for this fact, looks like most are too scared to publish it. So if anyone can help me out, it'd be much appreciated. Edit request
At the end of the "Photo controversy" section, I request that the following text be added in a new paragraph at the end:
It has been reported that Hudgens has been offered $500,000 to join Girls Gone Wild. In a press release issued from a Nevada state prison, Joe Francis, who offered the deal to Hudgens, said "Vanessa Hudgens is the classic girl next door gone wild. Being sexual is not a crime... She took a picture. It was leaked, and now it is time to move forward with her career."[3] Hudgens' rep hasn't commented on the report.

- I have denied your edit request. I would recommend that you find a more credible source than a tabloid, something more along the lines of the associated press. bibliomaniac15 15 years of trouble and general madness 00:43, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Alright, I suppose. I assumed the source I provided was credible because there are a couple statements that also use postchronicle.com as a reference. If it isn't a credible source, then I suggest that the statements in the article currently which use postchronicle.com as a reference be removed, but I'm not gonna {{editprotect}} those statements because I'm not clear about WP:RS, but it seems quite reasonable to me that if my request was denied for that reason, then similar statements should be removed. Ksy92003(talk) 00:57, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure if this statement is really necessary for the article. Celebrities get offers to pose nude and such all the time. Didn't Larry Flint have a million dollar offer for Jenna Bush if she decided to pose nude for Hustler? I don't see any mention of that in her article. So, is it that necessary to go in? Metros 01:04, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- I would say that it is necessary to include because it proves that the image has gotten notable attention. It's a part of this whole "scandal" and it shows that the release of the image onto the web has gotten notable attention. It's a huge part of her career at this time, and I think it's rather important. Ksy92003(talk) 01:51, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
I hope this isn't for real. This will be totally forgotten in about 10 minutes from now since folks have the attention span the size of a sand flea. Can we just move on? Thanks, --Tom 18:16, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- Sorry, Tom, but she already admitted it was her. (I was hoping that wasn't myself). As for Metros, if Jenna accepted, that WOULD be necessary. The inclusion of the mentioning of the photos is necessary if for no other reason, Hudgens has/had a "squeaky-clean" image. Let's suppose (hypothetically), this was the Bob Saget page. Using this logic, you would probably oppose mentioning his vulgar stand-up act. This would probably need to be mentioned mainly as a contrast to his squeaky-image on...Full House.

Make changes to the article
{{editprotected}}
Please somebody read the sources and things people have requested and change them. I thought that the whole point of Wikipedia was for it to be able to be edited by everyone so that it would be the best information possible. I understand that this article needs to be protected because of vandalism, but still, what people write on the talk pages should be taken into consideration and if the changes aren't going to be made, a reason why should be clearly stated on the talk pages. - Apologies for the delay; I've been on a business trip, without internet access since Friday afternoon. I haven't seen any reliable sources on the Drake Bell theory - all I've seen is that People magazine quotes an anonymous source who says that's where they came from - that wouldn't seem to be enough. As the new pictures go, I haven't seen a reliable source yet, and it doesn't seem to be that notable (very little media attention was paid to the new photos, as far as I can tell).
- As for the new statements, I'm not sure exactly which ones you're referring to. As J.smith said, you'll need to suggest specific changes; while I've tried to learn about Ms. Hudgens, the photos, etc., I honestly had no idea who she was until this happened, so I'll need you and others to help me as to exactly what you think should be edited. Errors on page
{{editprotected}}
I have noticed that there are some chart position errors on the page. "We're All in This Together" did not chart at #4 in the UK, it only charted at #40 (there is proof of this on EveryHit.com, which keeps an accurate record of all songs over the years that have made the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart. Secondly, "Say OK" never charted in Australia, so a — should appear where the AUS column intersects with it, and I am pretty sure it never charted in New Zealand either. I believe this because I don't think around 10 months after it was released in the U.S. it will chart or be released here, nor in a lesser market, such as New Zealand. Also, there is apparent proof that "Say OK" charted at #124 on the UK Singles Chart here; that link is also provided on the "Say OK" page. Third and finally, "What Time Is It?" charted at #20 in Australia recently; and the "You Are the Music in Me" link, as well as all other High School Musical and High School Musical 2 songs' links should be removed (except "Breaking Free", "What Time Is It?" and "I Don't Dance"), as they all only redirect back to either High School Musical (soundtrack) and High School Musical 2 (soundtrack), and any attempt to create an article for the various songs is usually heavily debated and usually always ends up deleted. Heritage
Hector Ramos and Opinoso are involved in an edit war involving Vanessa's heritage. Please DO NOT MAKE ANY MORE REVERTS and continue the discussion here. If anyone makes any more reverts, they will be reported for violation of the 3RR. Once we have came to a consensus, we will change the article and keep it that way. --Dan LeveilleTALK 16:57, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

- Vanessa has no Puerto Rican heritage. There are no sources about it. If some site says she is Puerto Rican, this source is a lie.
- How can she have Puerto Rican ancestry on her mother's side? Her mother was born in PHILIPINAS. Nobody from Puerto Rico immigrated to Philipinas.
- Hector Ramos claims that Hudgens's mother has Puerto Rican ancestry. Her mother is of Filipino, Spanish and Chinese ancestry.
- If Vanessa had any Puerto Rican ancestry, one of her grandparents should be Puerto Rican. There are no sources saying any of her grandparents was Puerto Rican.
- By the way, her grandparents were probably born in the 1920s. What would a Puerto Rican be doing in Philipinas in 1920? Puerto Ricans started to immigrate in the 1960s, most all of them to the Unites States.
- Nobody left Puerto Rico in 1920 to live in Philipinas. This is insane. Any History book confirms that.
- Hector Ramos is just trying to claim a fake Puerto Rican heritage to Vanessa, because he probably is from Puerto Rico and wants Vanessa to be like him.
- It's like claiming Oprah Winfrey is of Japanese heritage. It is just pathetic. Opinoso (talk) 18:34, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- I suggest returning the section to the way it read at the end of last year. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Vanessa_Anne_Hudgens&oldid=181299100 This was stable and included an actual quote for self identification. This ethnic stuff is irrelevant (doesn't impact her or her career in any way) mostly but if it must be in the article at least go by the subjects self identification and don't try to trace back every great^n grandparents birth location. --NrDg 18:52, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, Vanessa quote about her own ancestry is perfect. I'm just here because the guy was trying to claim she is Puerto Rican; since this is an Enciclopedya, WRONG information should not stay. Opinoso (talk) 21:44, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
One of the parties to this edit dispute, Hector Ramos, is not participating in this discussion but continues to add unsupported information that directly conflicts with a self-identifying quote from Hudgens. In addition he is pushing his edit by removing the reference and the quote as it is conflicting with the point-of-view that he is trying to get in the article. I would say a direct quote from the subject is the strongest proof possible for the edit made by Opinoso and suggest that we support that version against removal of that information. I consider removal of the referenced quote and the addition of conflicting information disruptive editing. --NrDg 04:57, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- I found the on topic entry by Hector Ramos and moved it to this section. Only addition is that the reference he is using is a myspace entry that is not verified to be Hudgens and is likely a poser. Not a trusted source. --NrDg 05:24, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- Either remove the information altogether or go with information that is from a reliable source. So far I haven't seen a source for the puerto rican part but Opinoso's info seems to have a valid source. If Hector Ramos removes the source information again and replaces it with unsourced info, give him a final warning on his talk page. If he continues to do it after that, taking it to WP:ANI and let the admins handle him. --Malevious Userpage •Talk Page• Contributions 05:43, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- Removal was tried and was unstable, people seem so want this and as long as it is properly supported is OK. WP:BLP issue otherwise as many people find misstating their ethnicity to be derogatory so have to get it right by WP:BLP rules if included. --NrDg 14:56, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

- just because she said that she's Spanish doesn't mean that she's from spain other countries speak Spanish like Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Cubans, Mexicans etc. and she's Puerto Rican, Filipino, Chinese, Irish, Native American. -- 16:44, 25 January 2008 Hector Ramos
- We don't do original research in Wikipedia. See WP:OR. We go with what some reliable source concluded and we can verify. We have a well referenced quote from Hudgens herself. We can't second guess her own statement about what she considers herself. A lot of people think misidentifying ethic identity as being derogatory so it is always best to go with what people consider themselves unless you have extremely good proof that they are wrong. --NrDg 17:12, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- I restored the text (father American - Irish and Native - mother Filipino - Spanish/Chinese/Filipino). I don't see why there should be a direct quote taking up extra space; you could have such a quote from a celebrity about their ethnicity for almost every major actor. Why this one? All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 20:17, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Because it is contentious and nothing is more authoritative than a direct quote from from the person them self. We need nothing more than that and references to the ethnicity of her parents are about them (non notable people) not her. A direct quote cuts to the chase, so to speak, and is irrefutable as stated. This also heads off another round of ethnicity debates as seen above. Please reconsider your removal of the quote. --NrDg 20:44, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see how Vanessa Hudgens' ancestry is any more contentious than her birthplace, her parents' names, or her sister's name. It is pretty well accepted that her father is American, her mother Filipino, her father's ancestry Irish-Native American, and her mother's Spanish-Chinese-Filipino. It's stated in almost every piece or website that goes over her ancestry. There are no differing versions of this on the internet. Just because a single Wikipedia editor claims that her background is something else doesn't mean this view has any life out there or makes this information debateable or disputed. This quote is also unhelpful because the article should state the specifics (which of her parents has which ancestry), something the quote doesn't do. Wikipedia:QUOTE#When_to_use_quotations states that quotes should be used if the quote is "a unique phrase or term from someone’s speech or writing" (which this isn't) or "dealing with a potentially controversial statement" (and there's no evidence that it's potentially controversial, outside of one Wikipedia editor who is now blocked, and certainly not compared to the examples used in that section of WP:QUOTE). All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 13:02, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Let's focus on "dealing with a potentially controversial statement". This issue has come up at least twice in the last year and the stable solution that stopped the wiki controversy was the quote from Hudgens. The ethnicity of her parents is an irrelevancy. They are not notable so their individual ethnicity adds nothing to the article. Why does it matter which parent's genealogical ethnic branch lead to what Hudgens considers herself? The addition of the quote was a consensus compromise. Ethnicity IS more contentious than hard verifiable facts about names and places because it is basically a subjective judgment of what ancestors to use as definers. To many people being misclassified is an insult and they will class it as derogatory. Too many editor with a POV to grind want to claim famous people as one of their own. If we have a quote from the person directly, all debate about ethnicity is essentially over. --NrDg 19:25, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- "The ethnicity of her parents is an irrelevancy. They are not notable so their individual ethnicity adds nothing to the article. " - I don't see the validity of that statement. It's actually quite relevant that her father is American and her mother is, in fact, an immigrant from a different country, who was raised in that country and speaks the language, and so on. And the quote doesn't give you that information. This is a whole other matter, in terms of the cultural and ethnic influence on Hudgens, than if her parents were simply both Americans, both with a batch of ethnicities in their family tree. The quote is a simple statment of fact, exactly the same as a line in the article. It can't be re-written (as a sentence) in any POV way. I suppose the ethnicity of certain celebrities is contentious, but I just don't see it with Hudgens. Where is the proof that Hudgens' ethnicity is contentious? I mean, proof like several websites or news reports giving a conflicting report on her background that would create some kind of confusion about it. Unless you're saying that ethnicity in general is contentious, and thus every mention of ethnicity on Wikipedia should be replaced with a quote, which would probably seem quite odd. Oh, and as for editors trying to claim some celebrity as their own - a quote won't stop them. I've seen editors of that nature routinely change quotes to add and/or subtract whatever parts they do/don't like. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 17:55, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
- Modifying a direct quote is vandalism if done after being warned, same as modifying any well referenced fact to go against the reference, and can be treated as such. The fact that her father is American by birth and her mother was an immigrant from the Philippines IS relevant info, the sub ethnicities past that are not. I doubt that anyone has validated the finer details about her parents past passing through statements made by her parents or Hudgens herself. Nationality and immigrant status are objective facts. What people consider themselves, and that includes her parents, is a subjective choice of which ancestors to count. The quote IS a simple statement of fact from a primary source, which is why it is irrefutable. Yes, I believe that every mention of ethnicity is potentially contentious and I do believe, that if a quotes exists, every mention of ethnicity SHOULD be replaced by a quote or at least use the quote as a primary source reference for information in the article. In this particular case I would be OK with leaving the section as you wrote it, but if you remove the actual quote add a reference to it and have the quote as a cite quote.--NrDg 16:48, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- That sounds like a good idea. I'll try it that way. I hope I did it correctly / that's what you meant. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 21:06, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- That looks fine. It gets the quote out of the flow of text, but it is still in the article as a reference. It can probably be formatted without the breaks though as others may not like how it appears in the reference section.--NrDg 21:51, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

She was in people magazines 100 most beautiful and she was also voted as 12 in Maxim's 100 most beautiful women. here are the links for those two. Please change the last sentence of the second paragraph from

to
- "She has had roles in two of Fox's live musical productions: Rizzo in Grease: Live in 2016, and Maureen Johnson in Rent: Live in 2019."
This might be accurate, if still a little confusing, had she played the same character in both movies but she didn't. "A role" is singular but Rizzo and Maureen Johnson are two distinct roles. 2600:1700:B7A1:9A30:7:986D:4329:3A9 (talk) 18:10, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
