Name

[edit]

It's been reported to info-en@ that a more correct rendering of this composer's name would be Uzeyir Hadzhibekov (currently a redirect). Can anyone confirm or deny? --129.234.4.10 21:42, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No thats not true Uzeyir Hajibeyov is the correct one Baku87 14:24, 9 April 2006 (UTC)Baku87[reply]

What a moron wrote that Uzeir was the first composer in the entire Soviet Union. Something is really wrong with wikipedia. I can not believe anyone can come and write paranoic ideas. And you call this an encyclopedia????

the word Hadzhibekov is an English form of the composer's surname in Russian:Гаджибеков where жд is expressed with zh. But the real surname of the composer is Hajibeyli (Hadjibeyov - Soviet version). Why he is inroduced as Hajibeyov (not Hajibeyli) is connected with the fact that he gained fame under this surname. And his real surname would form a misunderstanding as if there were another composer with a similar surname. User:Teymur Shushali

The page originally said that he was the first composer in the former USSR to be awarded the title of the Hero of Socialist Labor. Then someone revised it and removed only second part of the phrase. I'm not sure about the source of that info, so I'm removing it. Grandmaster 19:22, 11 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He could have been rewarded the Socialist Labour Hero or SOviet Union's People artist honorable rewards due to special quotas given to Azerbaijan. Every republic had quotas for these rewards. And if Azerbaijan decided to introduce Uzeyir Hajibekov to the Soviet Government to award him within the Azerbaijani quota and the other nations decided to award their ballet dancers or movie stars, this does not mean that Hajibeyov was special or entitled to be awarded first among all the soviet composers. Did the authors pay attention to the fact that he studied in Moscow during the SOviet period meaning he had some Soviet composers to be his teachers when writing this stupid claim in the article?. And finally, it is Khachaturian's Spartacus and Gayaneh, violin concerto, it is Prokofiev's and Rachmaninov's piano concertos performed in Lincoln Center and Bolshoi, Carnegie Hall, not Uzeyir's falk-music-based primitive naive operette Arshin Mal Alan which is almost unknown in the West. I don't think that any respectable theater in the world will be into Arshin Mal Alan.

Music of Gara Garayev and Fikret Amirov is also performed all over the world, including Western countries. For example, Amirov’s symphonic mugams were performed by such great musicians as Leopold Stokowski. As for Hajibeyov, he is the most popular classical composer in Azerbaijan and he wrote the first opera in the Muslim world. He was a pioneer in that area and played a special role in Azerbaijani music, and Arshin mal alan, the movie and the music had international recognition too, but not in the West. I think the article is OK, I removed the dubious sentence, which was a result of inaccurate edit. Grandmaster 06:40, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are we talkng about Hajibekov or Karayev and Amirov??? Arshin Mal Alan had an american hollywood version but it was staged by armenian director Ruben Mamulian. Arshin Mal ALan never had an international recognition in famous world theaters such as La Scala or Grand Opera Colon or Bolshoi Metopera or Covent Garden. It is ridiculous to talk about this. He may have written the first Opera in the muslim world but Soviet Union was not a muslim country. Moreover, neighboring Georgia and Armenia are actually Christian, where so many Operas had been written long before the era of Uzeyir Hajibeyov. Conservatory of Caucasus Shushi was indeed a part of Russian Empire, a city in Elizavetpol Gubernia with multiethnic population, and the majority of the city was Armenian with its Armenian districts. So many composers, other Russian Imperial celebrities track their roots from Shushi. The city was fundamentally burnt durint the Armenian Azeri clashes after the break up of Russian Empire. Later it became a village-like, 10000 inhabitants populating town in Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous district with absolute zero influence and significance because the Armenian intelligentsia moved to Karabakh's new capital Stepanakert.Later in 1992, Azeris lost the town to Armenians during the Karabakh war for independence. Armenians returned to their Shushi after 80 years, to the conservatory of Caucasus which they built and developed. The historic data given in this article is very politically motivated and unilateral, it is a pure propaganda. You better read Armenian sources as well before claiming not well grounded pretensions about Shushi's being an Azerbaijani town occupied my Armenian guerillas.

Ruben Mamulyan was a plagiarist. He even claimed that he wrote the music, which he did not. As for Shusha, it is an Azeri town, the capital of Karabakh khanate, founded by Panah Ali khan. I don’t see much to dispute here. I already removed the phrase you were not happy with. Of course, the article needs work, but I don’t have time for it right now. Grandmaster 16:04, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Either you are an Azeri pretending to be a grandmaster or you are just a person involved in propaganda. Shushi was not founded by Panah Khan. Long time before the invasion of khans and tiurkic peopple there was an armenian village Shosh in that place. Panah Khan just proclaimed that place a capital of his khanate. Shushi became Azeri due to starving for oil British favour to Azeris. Shushi belongs to its founders at the moment.Uzeyir Hajibeyov is practically unknown beyond the Azeri borders while Mamulian is an Academy award winner. And don;t dare call him a plagiarist. He was born in Tiflis and knew that Arshin Mal Alan was an Azeri operetta. And if he did not stage that in USA Arshin Mal Alan would always remain unknown. Armenians have to claims on that primitive and backwords opereta based on weird story of muslim traditions.

Open any serious encyclopedia and see who founded the city. Shushakend is a village near the city, from which the city took its name, but the village and the city are two different places. The city was initially called Panahabad after its founder. And stop vandalizing the article, I will rewrite it later, when I have time. Grandmaster 06:15, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You will always have time to bullshit in wikipedia. Now you claim Shushi was Panahabad named after Panah Khan. In your article you call Shushi an ancient town. Are you mentally sick or you are trying to fool people in wikipedia. Do you think Panah Khan lived in Ancient era??? Who indeed lived in Shushi in ancient times were Armenians and Caucasus Albanians.

First of all, mind WP:Civility. Second I did not write this article and haven't contributed a single line to it. I agree that it may have its flaws. Third, Shusha indeed was called Panahabad, and that was in 18th century. Overall, the article needs work, and it will be improved. Grandmaster 11:27, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Who was that jerk who blocked me?? Why some assholes have authority to block the others. Either you, pseudo grandmaster of azeri origin make your own corrections about Antient City of Shusha founded by Panah Khan in 18 century or I will keep vandalizing your stupid article and then write a special letter to wikipedia accusing you of spreading Azeri propaganda in Wikipedia. I wanna know the name of those assholes who tried to block me. idiots. Grandmaster! WHere are you with your paranoic ideas. It is a nuisanse that wikipedia can give a chance to falsificators to speak out. Get some life instead of bullshitting online.Especially in Hajibeyov and black january articles. You should be ignored. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.185.55.92 (talkcontribs) 00:46, 22 June 2006

Around 1750 Panah Khan decided to build a strong fortress inside the mountains ,one that would remain forever strong ,impreganble and unassailable (.....)This advice was shared with melik Shanazar (....) the decision was made .(....) In the muslim year 1170 ,corresponding to the christian year 1756,all the ra'yat(peasants and subjects) of the Shah Bulaghi fortress along with the noble families and persons, meliks attendant ,tribal elders, and the inhabitants of some village were sent to reside in this new fortress.(Mirza Jamal Javanshir's Tarikh-e Karabagh .Translation by George A. Bournoutian) Bakhikanov implies that there was already a small fort there which belonged to melik Shahnazar beg of Varanda and that it was to the request of the melik that Panah Khan repaired and enlarged it.

So ,Azeris and Armenians ignore the fact that modern nationalism was absent from the psyche of the muslim and christians during those periods

Each Khan was primarly concerned with his own domain. They would make alliances with armenians meliks, russia ,the ottoman empire and persia when it suited to their plans Keep cool cousins ,every Tatar or azeri or whatever you call them had strong relationships with armenians even during Uzeyir Hajibeyli youth in Shusha .Almost every Tatar in Karabagh or Caucasus had an Armenian "godfather" All I can say is that the Hajibeyli's '(Hadjibeyli Hajibeyov Gadzhibekov Gadjibekov)were living in Karabakh since 1750 Peace .Gachag 4 September 2006

The article in Wiki is far bigger and beyond the one mentioned above. Substantiate your claim. Atabek 05:33, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Was born in Elisabethpol Governorate in 1885, not Azerbaijan.Hajji Piruz 22:30, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again, Shusha is located in what's recognized as Azerbaijan. Stop removing Azerbaijan word on all pages. Per same argument Iran did not exist as a state between 7th century A.D. and 1501, yet we have History of Iran tags covering the period. Atabek 04:37, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We are talking about 1885. Its not the same argument.Hajji Piruz 17:12, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
