Discussion from user talk
[edit]The de wiki article says he's German. Why does the en wiki article say he's Austrian? PumpkinSky talk 23:11, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- Good question. Make sure the German wiki article is de:Uwe Schulten-Baumer (Senior) He has a son who rides but is not the famous coach. this article says "Originally from Essen-Kettwig" Which I think is in Germany?
- Yes, I'm using Uwe Senior's article on de wiki. Und jawohl, Kettwig ist ganz bestimmt ein teil von Deutschland! PumpkinSky talk 23:29, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- @Gerda - what is the best translation of "Reitmeister"? Literally it's "Riding Master" but as we discussed before that doesn't seem quite right. PumpkinSky talk 23:32, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- Is Senta the name of a horse? (check my translation in the article (decided not to use the sandbox). PumpkinSky talk 23:46, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- @Gerda-This: "Da er hauptberuflich als Stahlmanager und Vorstandsmitglied des Roheisen-Verbandes stark eingebunden war, entschied er sich, seine aktive Sportkarriere zu beenden und konzentrierte sich vollständig auf die Ausbildung von Dressurreitern." does not make sense to me, if he was so busy as a business manager that he ended his active sports career, that he concentrated on dressage training? Wouldn't ending a sports career include ending horse riding/training? PumpkinSky talk 00:08, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- It seems to distinguish active riding and (passive?) educating, perhaps he couldn't do both timewise? - Talking translations: I am dreaming of the Great Dismal Swamp maroons pictured on the de Hauptseite, probably easier than a gem on en ;) Lux Aurumque got 6,506 hit's there, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:03, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- From what I've read, "riding master" is a title granted to coaches in Germany with a certain level of accomplishment, but would need a source. Here in the USA, we'd probably just say "instructor" or "coach." As for the statement about business getting in the way of riding, the reference probably means that he stopped competing for awards himself in favor of working with horses and riders behind the scenes; we'd see a similar thing with a tennis coach or a golf coach or any other individual sports coach, you can compete or you can coach others who compete, but it's tough to do both; doesn't mean they never hit a ball (or ride a horse) again. Montanabw(talk) 15:54, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- The Wiki DE note says it's a title awarded by the German Equestrian Federation. Intothatdarkness (talk) 16:01, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- I'm OK adding that in, as long as it is clearly identified as a title granted by the group, in fact, it's quite relevant. Is anyone else who is a native English speaker having as much fun as I am saying "Uwe Schulten-Baumer" out loud, with a really bad German accent? Montanabw(talk) 16:05, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Refs 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 are dead. Do we have replacements or archive URLs? PumpkinSky talk 22:21, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- No clue. Tag them with deadlink and maybe someone who can run a script can salvage some of them. Montanabw(talk) 22:25, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- I tagged them and you wiped them out PumpkinSky talk 23:07, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- Edit conflict, my bad! I ran a refcheck tool which only flagged one, I don't get how the scripts work very well, either. Montanabw(talk) 18:36, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Cleanup
[edit]I threw in some more material from the German wiki article, we need the translation tag now, and if you guys can fix the footnotes and such, I ran into a few translation glitches. Thanks! Montanabw(talk) 18:26, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
