Terry College

I was in the famed Lenox district of Atlanta last weekend and saw a fairly tall building with the sign "Terry College of Business" beside of the UGA symbol. I've been to Lenox several times and this was the first time I saw this building. There ought to be a description of this business school, what it has to offer, and why it's in Atlanta now. -Amit, July 29

I know I'm very late but to respond: Terry College is primarily located on the campus in Athens, with a satellite location at Lenox for executive MBA-type programs. The school should be mentioned in the main article anyway; in fact, this article needs major work. I'll be looking into doing that soon. Athletics Section

Just a straw poll -- do y'all think these new additions should maybe be split off into a "UGA Athletics" article or something along those lines? It seems too detailed on one aspect of the university to belong in the main article, but I think it's mostly good info (if it had some more cited sources...) that should be in WP. Absolutely agree. I think we should model the UGA page after the University of Michigan. One paragraph per sport or general sport topic with the detailed stuff in the main sports article. Same for history and the rest of the article in fact. Interested in starting a Wikiproject (e.g. Texas)? Maybe one day even a portal like Portal:University_of_Texas_at_Austin? OK, I moved all the existing Athletics info to the Georgia Bulldogs page earlier. I just put up a first attempt at a summary for the athletics section on the main UGA page. Needs work for sure, but I thought it would help get things started. IThe rivalry info will be contentious so I would recommend we also try to cite something when putting in additional statements or doing rewrites. I also tried to avoid focusing on specific sports as that seems more appropriate for the Georgia Bulldogs entry. Edit away! --Roswell native 03:34, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Greek Life

Anon IP 65.38.9.35 has been adding lists of sorority chapters to many college and university articles. I don't think it belongs. Can we get a consensus as to whether this should stay or go? --SuperNova |T|C| 03:00, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

I think a summary of Greek life (i.e. # of fraternities/sororities, % of student body that are members) is more appropriate for the main article. The current list would be better placed in a separate article about Greek life at UGA IMHO.--Roswell native 03:20, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

Motto

I noticed on the page that the motto is listed as being "To teach and to inquire into the nature of things." However, I've heard on campus (and the mainpage says) that the motto has been changed to "To teach, to serve, and to inquire into the nature of things." As far as I can tell, though, the school's seal hasn't been changed, and I can't find the new Latin version (if there is one) anywhere. Should I go ahead and change the motto, and delete the old Latin version? Archangel127 19:44, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Scratch that. I had intended to change it, but as Archangel said, there does not seem to be a new Latin version. The English motto has changed, and is reported in numerous places on the UGA website. New section

Any thoughts about adding a new section called "Institution" after the History section? Intro to the section would be the last two sections of the current leading paragraph. The first subsection would be a new "Organization" section with the schools and colleges listed there (See Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities) instead of down in the "Facts" section. We could also take some of the bulleted facts out and place in paragraph form as additional intro text for the "Institution" section. Might also be nice to have several more subsections such as "Enrollment" and "Faculty". Maybe a temp page would be better to play with this reorg? -- Roswell native 01:29, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

I think this would be a good idea. The source for the majority of the information under the "Facts" section, University of Georgia:Quick Facts is already cited as a note earlier in the article.--Imaginationac 03:07, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Chapel Bell

Perhaps this talk page gets more traffic than that of Talk:Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate, so I'll ask this question here: does anyone know of a website or book that explicitly states that the Chapel Bell has been stolen? Streaking record

Any objections to adding this statement to the "History" section? It may be trivial, but I don't see any problem if it isn't part of a trivia section. I know it isn't specifically about the university itself, but it is an historical social event that occurred on its campus. I also see a request to edit the section by blending prose with timeline and dividing into subsections - I'd gladly spend some time on this if consensus leans that way.

West Campus Picture

It seems to me that the west campus picture does not significantly contribute to the article and is also vague and unattractive. I am replacing it with one or two other pictures from campus that are more specific and also show off the beauty of UGA. I'm thrilled by the inclusion of the historic Hunter/Holmes pic! As for the path behind the arch, it's lovely compared to the awful west campus image, but it doesn't particularly illustrate UGA all that well. A photo or two of some of that old North Campus architecture would be great (maybe the Chapel, Demosthenian Hall or Old College - not the modern monstrosities seen on the rest of campus) if anyone can produce something. As for scenic landscapes, a nice distance shot of the front of the Main Library from across the North Campus Quad might be a good replacement for the Herty Field image. In other words, stand exactly where the arch path photo was taken, step to your right about 20 yards, then look either to your left or directly behind you. One last thing - wait for Spring, or better yet, how about some colorful Fall foliage? ;) - Tobogganoggin ^talk 02:13, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Image needs replacement - Demosthenian Literary Society

Hello all...

An image used in the article, specifically Image:Dlshall2.jpg, has a little bit of a licensing issue. The image was uploaded back when the rules around image uploading were less restrictive. It is presumed that the uploader was willing to license the picture under the GFDL license but was not clear in that regard. As such, the image, while not at risk of deletion, is likely not clearly licensed to allow for free use in any future use of this article. If anyone has an image that can replace this, or can go take one and upload it, it would be best.

The Arch

The article states that The Arch has always faced downtown, it actually originally faced east, not north as it does now. We were told this during a tour before our orientation. The confusion might be that the current arch, built in 1858 by the Athens Foundry has always been in it's present place (actually it was moved back 6 feet from the street). http://www.uga.edu/profile/arch.html

I attempted to add the coordinates for University_of_Georgia but I'm afraid I don't quite know how to do it properly. I truncated the coordinates to four decimal places. The position listed is Old College, the "heart" of UGA. They are, precisely, 33.955819º N, 83.374461º W. One will find the code in the sidebar under the city, state, and country. category hierarchy

On the "Category hierarchy" table, I would suggest changing the non-existent "Category:University of Georgia athletic teams" to the already-existing Category:Georgia Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs. Eagle4000 (talk) 21:50, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Is Kim Basinger an Alumna?

Kim Basinger is listed in Wikipedia as an alumna of UGA. Although Basinger grew up in Athens, none of her biographies mention her ever having attended the University of Georgia. Someone should confirm this and perhaps delete her name under List of University of Georgia people.

On Basinger's Wikipidea page, it is indicated that Basinger attended UGA but left to become a model. I have edited the List of University of Georgia people to say "attended"

Regarding Conflict of Interest accusation

I'm writing regarding my affiliation with UGA. I've received a few emails and messages regarding my username. I'm a bit new to Wikipidea, so sorry for the delay. Yes, I am a UGA alumnus, however, I try not to have a bias when it comes to writing. I know how important it is to keep a neutral stance when it comes to editing. Many students use Wikipidea for their initial college search. It's very important that information is accurate and up-to-date. I make sure to cite everything added. A few months back I noticed that the University of Georgia's page was very barren and outdated. I decided to take up the responsibility of fleshing it out. I've revamped the housing, alumni and main UGA page. I also edit the pages of other schools and universities I am familiar with. Feel free to double check my citations and information. I will do the same. Rest assured, no bias here.

Merging the College of Education

If I understand correctly, the University of Georgia College of Education is to be merged with the main page. The College of Education page cannot be merged with the University of Georgia. Such a merger would be inconsistant with the format of all university profiles on Wikipidea. Furthermore, there is no logical reason that this single college should be on the main UGA page as opposed I see no reason to merge the pages. The COE is a fully established college within the University of Georgia. Information should be added to the College of Education page, but it should not be merged.

Please reconsider that merger.

Personally, I'm not sure there is very much in that other article that is even worth merging into this one. Some of the other articles about UGA colleges and schools are in much better shape but many of them should also be deleted, IMHO. It's not a high enough priority for me to go through the hassle of AfDing all of them but I'd be happy if someone were to do it sometime. ElKevbo (talk) 01:18, 6 February 2013 (UTC)

Any University article on Wikipidea has their colleges and schools respectively listed. Take a look at University of Florida's schools and college organization column for example. We can't simply cut out a college from a university just because it looks barren. A hyperbole to relate what I'm saying would be cutting out Idaho from a map of the United States and stuffing it in Washington. There isn't much in Idaho. Let's delete Idaho. Does that make more sense? I don't really see the point in destroying content.

In my opinion, it would look extremely sloppy and messy for a school or college to be blacked out on the main UGA page. Users searching for UGA College of Education wouldn't have an article to edit or read. Ironically, the College of Education is actually one of the bigger colleges at UGA.

I will help revamp the schools and colleges sections in due time, including the College of Education. I plan to create two pages for the UGA-GRU Medical Partnership as well as the College of Engineering anyways.

Revamping of UGA articles to-do list

I wanted to start up a WikiProject for the University of Georgia, but it seems that hasn't taken off. As those of you following the UGA Wikipidea article know, I have been steadily growing and improving the page over the past month. Can anyone help me create the following articles:

• UGA-GHSU Medical Partnership
• University of Georgia College of Engineering
• The Georgia Arch(the icon and landmark at the University of Georgia
• The campus of the University of Georgia - see
• UGA Alumni Association
• Article pages for notable buildings at UGA - see University of Florida for an example. Buildings for candidacy; Old College, Moore College, new college, MLC, Special Collections Library, Myers, Rutherford Hall etc.
• University of Georgia ROTC - see University of Florida once more for an example.
• List of University of Georgia Olympians, see University of Florida for an example.
• List of University of Georgia Faculty and Administrators. See example.
• Lake Herrick see example.
• UGA Housing could use some sprucing up. If someone could upload more pictures of UGA housing, that would be fantastic.

I am shocked at how neglected the flagship's article(s) are. Let's try to spruce up the content here. I am currently reading up on UGA history for my History of the University of Georgia article. My goal is to get this article to GA status. There is a lot of work to be done. University of Florida has done an excellent job with their article and subsequent pages.

Demographics and ...

Could we have a demographics section telling us the racial breakdown of the student body? Percentage of in-state v. out-of-state students? etc. I've never been on campus and still have zero picture of the student body.
