Image of book
[edit]Hi, the history of printing types is a hobby of mine. The original image did not at all look like a book printed in 1737, it seemed to use Didone type in the style introduced at the start of the nineteenth century. I wonder if one of the reprints could have reprinted the original title page as an internal page. Searching on Commons I found the image I've substituted it with, which I believe to be authentically the original book. You'll see it has the rougher style of printing and Dutch taste fonts of the early eighteenth century. Blythwood (talk) 10:58, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Blythwood: The initial image of the book was taken from an article of the Universal Lithuanian Encyclopedia which claim that it dates to 1737. However, I found nearly identical title page at the Vilnius University Library (also from 1737) with which you replaced the initial image (see: HERE, page 7). So maybe the initial image of the book really is a later reprint of the original 1737 book, thus probably you are right and the image you inserted should be kept for the sake of Wikipedia:Verifiability. -- Pofka (talk) 13:02, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
