The external links seem to be broken. There's already a link in the top frame to the document in unispal.un.org, so perhaps they are obsolete. Dorshil (talk) 11:29, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Two unverified quotes in the "Debates and Discussions"

[edit]

Both of the quotes are linked to an incomplete short citation "Boyle & 279-80".

None of them can be found in the linked protocols of the General Assembly meeting, so the accuracy of the quotes cannot be verified.

I suggest that either the citation should be corrected to a long citation, so the quotes authenticity could be confirmed, or the whole section removed. Zlmark (talk) 16:57, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Voting Results Map Error

[edit]

The voting results map does not reflect the fact China was one of the countries that voted for the resolution. Raven9nine (talk) 21:04, 7 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Misleading partial quotes in the "Debates and Discussions" section

[edit]

The whole section has been formulated in way that gives a mistaken impression that Israel agreed to the return of Arab refugees. The response of the Israeli representative, Abba Eban, is truncated and leaves out the sentence that follows:

"I cannot honestly conceal from the Committee that even our full co-operation with all the means at our disposal will not avail to solve this question unless it is considered against the general background of the Near East and unless similar co-operation from other neighboring Governments and a large measure of international assistance are invested in the solution of this problem on a regional basis."

Moreover, later in the same session Eban says:

"The Government of Israel considers and has made it clear that the return of Arab refugees was one of the methods of settling this problem. It considers, as the Conciliation Commission considers and as one of the Governments represented in the United Nations, the opinion of which I quoted this morning seems also to consider, that another method of settling the question would be resettlement of the refugees in neighboring countries. The balance of those resettled in neighboring countries, in comparison with the numbers resettled in Israel, is a matter to be settled by mutual consent after negotiations for which we are immediately prepared."

And, following this response, the representative of Yemen states in the next session on May 7:

"Mr. Eban has further confirmed that his Government considered resettlement of the refugees in the neighboring Arab States the main basis of any solution."

Accordingly, this section needs to be either thoroughly rewritten or removed altogether, since it present form it gives a distorted view of only one aspect of the discussions.
