"Semi-autobiographical"
[edit]User:Drmies removed "semi-autobiographical" from the lead, with the edit summary "i disagree. 'semi-autobiographical' is too easy to thrown around".
That may be a valid opinion, but critics and reviewers seem to use "semi-autobiographical" as the primary adjective to describe the book. At Wikipedia, aren't we supposed to rely on third-party sources, and not our own opinions? CüRlyTüRkeyTalkContribs 06:11, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
plot summery a little long?
[edit]is a chapter by chapter summery of the book appropriate for Wikipedia? should Wikipedia act as a kind of Spark Notes for people too lazy to read the book? Spark Notes is online, after all, and an encyclopaedia serves a different purpose.

- Agree entirely. Spark Notes have their own function. A wikipedia plot summary should be exactly that - without spoilers too, as with detective thrillers. Valetude (talk) 15:37, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
Mobile version on Wikipedia
[edit]Wikipedia displays a crap mobile version of this web page on a high resolution tablet. Why?
Murder and Body
[edit]In the summary it says the Consul is killed and his killers "throw his body into a ditch." This isn't quite right as it is noted a few times that the Farolito cantina is perched on the edge of a deep precipice, viz:
"he approached the open window on his right. It was almost a sheer drop to the bottom of the ravine. [...] the sheer height was terrifying" p339
So, at the end as he dies, I think the implication is that he is thrown off the edge of the cliff, into the "abyss" (which is also a recurring image.) In fact, great heights in general are a theme of the final chapter.
Also, when the dead dog follows him in his descent, in the very last line, the word "ravine" is used.
So, it's pretty unambiguous that this plunge takes place into something more profound and dramatic than just a "ditch."

- Wholly agree. Thanks for spotting that. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:49, 29 September 2016 (UTC)
