Notability

[edit]

I added a notability tag to this article, but it was deleted by an angry CFWC editor before any discussion could occur. I'm not sure this article meets geographic feature notability guidelines. See: WP:NGEOG. To me, it appears that coverage by reliable third-party sources is present, but not significant. Would anyone like to weigh in? Arctictis (talk) 00:27, 8 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not getting "angry" from this edit. Also, what does "CFWC" mean in this context? I think coverage by the New York Times confers at least some notability to the topic. It's true if this is being considered a WP:GEOFEAT, then it may not be automatically notable. If you use the general notability guideline of multiple independent reliable sources, however, then I believe this article passes those criteria. Of course to feel free to WP:PROD or take the article to WP:AFD if you are still concerned. Valfontis (talk) 00:33, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think the subject meets WP's notability threshold and would survive an AfD debate. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:17, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Removed content

[edit]

I removed the following unsourced content, but noting here in case it can be easily returned with an appropriate inline citation:

"The sign included Hamilton Turkey Farms on the sign's border from the 1960s through the early 1990s: at that time, the sign was located on the west side of I-5 not far from its 2014 location. Sometime in the 1990s, the label changed to Hamilton Corner."

Feel free to discuss here. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:24, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, I wrote that from personal experience hoping to back it up with a source.
From the early 1960s to about 1983, I would have occasion to make a round trip drive past the sign two to four times per year. From 1984 to 1998, I would make a round trip about once a month. The monotony of the drive would make the sign a must-see highlight good for a 10+ minute discussion with fellow travelers.
I have spent maybe ten minutes googling for a source. All I have learned is that there are now dozens of Wikipedia mirrors whereas there were only a hand full five yeras ago. —EncMstr (talk) 08:16, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Found a picture of the sign from that period... dunno if that makes the bar for a source: https://fark-usrimg-850.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com/J/J4/fark_J45vXhubxU2AiuhJD9BnwT9VWCc.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=HBAYEKZHGUB4NAYQBVSQ&Expires=1616990400&Signature=vVEa2e8PWdqqMWx0dTodLJCftkY%3D — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:602:8000:3180:E087:690D:3AF1:62A4 (talk) 03:08, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
