Pronunciation of Mühe's name
[edit]I've added the pronunciation of Ulrich Mühe's name according to the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) and the Pronunciation respelling key, but need a German speaker who is familiar with the IPA to confirm if it is correct. Thanks. Cheers, Jacklee 02:41, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Assuming that the surname is pronounced the same as the normal word Mühe, the "h" is normally silent; the standard pronunciation of the "r" is ʁ; and Duden gives a different pronunciation of the "u" (shorter, slightly less closed and not quite as far back). So IMO that should be [ˈʊlʁiç ˈmyːə] --Boson 17:51, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for this. Will update the article as you suggested. By the way, should the "i" in "Ulrich" be represented using the IPA with an ordinary "i" or a dotless "ɪ"? Cheers, Jacklee 23:20, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, you are right, of course, it should be [ˈʊlʁɪç ˈmyːə]. Sorry about that. I mistakenly overtyped the"ɪ" and my fingers must have retyped it without consulting the brain.--Boson 05:37, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
Awards section
[edit]It is not really a big issue for me, but I was disappointed to find that after putting a quite a bit of work into making the Awards section match the Awards section on the German-language Wikipedia page, Jacklee reverted it to the way it was before, with a comment that (as I understand it) this section is only for other (previously unmentioned?) awards. Perhaps there is a style page somewhere that says this I am unfamiliar with, but my opinion is this section should include all awards received, especially if references are given (which in this case I had added). In fact, much of the reason I did this work is because an editorial box is at the top of this section saying "Please help improve this section by expanding it. Further information might be found on the talk page or at requests for expansion. (June 2008)". If the awards are also described in the body of the text, I see no reason why they can't be in both places. I also feel the same way about the Filmography section, as films can be described and then listed. I will not get into a back-and-forth struggle for inclusion of this information or not because, frankly, I don't care that much, but I did want to make a note of my view and my experience. - Hi, Sonja. I'm sorry that you feel disappointed. My view is that actually it is better to try and get rid of the "Awards" section altogether and link the awards that Mühe received to specific films or TV programmes he has done, i.e., transfer the awards into the "Selected work" section in the column of the tables called "Awards and nominations". There doesn't seem to be a good reason for repeating the information so many times in the same article. Perhaps the "please expand" tag is misleading. I think what is needed is more information on why Mühe received the awards so that the transfer can be done. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 04:36, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
