In Mare In Caelo
[edit]Does anyone know what this means? InterTran said it meant: "Upon Sea Upon Celibate", but for obvious reasons I think this is wrong. If there are any people who can speak/translate Latin, this would be the time to use it.

Format
[edit]Why is this page written entirely in bullet form? TomStar81 07:58, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
chronological order? --Dom0803 12:42, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Anthony Appleyard vandalized it and no one ever bothered changing it back. Too many edits have taken place to easily return it back to its proper state. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.71.220.47 (talk) 08:00, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Geez, that was like three years ago! I've created USS Intrepid (CV-11)/Merge so we can work through the merger of the bullet points into the prose. When it's done, we can make this the content of the main article. — X S G 09:06, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
- Is there anything still going on there? Because the bullet point parts are extremely awful. --Ulkomaalainen (talk) 21:57, 2 September 2012 (UTC)
Capabilities
[edit]Could someone please describe the capabilities of the Intrepid. The projected capabilities of course, after she is free from the mud and after the renovation. Will she be able to manuver on her own power? And will there be aircraft taking off and landing on her deck?
- As I understand it, the renovation is limited to structural and cosmetic renovation. There are no plans to fit her out with engines. The ship is being towed with planes and other structures on board; it's too short for most jet planes to land on (even with a tailhook, and I'm not sure there are any on board. The ship will be towed back to Pier 86 after renovation sometime in 2008. --MatthewDBA 15:49, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Museum Article
[edit]Is there too much here about the Intrepid as museum given there's an article on the museum? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Metzby (talk • contribs) 20:58, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
technical data
[edit]During a recent tour, a guide stated that the ship had (forty miles of anchor chain) which seemed mathematically impossible given that each chain link weighs 250 lb., can you confirm? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.88.230.75 (talk) 02:09, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Typo under 'Ships Armor'
[edit]I don't seem to be able to figure out how to change the {{ }} template where the mistyped word "protectice" is used instead of the word "protective" under "Ship's Armor". Does anyone know how to refer back to the Info Box master and correct that?
Other Nicknames
[edit]I recall reading that the crew of Intrepid had at least two other nicknames for the ship, "Decrepid" and "The Evil I." The latter nickname was apparently also used by the crew of CVL-22, USS Independence. The former nickname was probably earned during the 80+ days of continuous combat operations Intrepid fought through in the Fall of 1944. Currently, I can find no reliable online reference to either of these, but I know I've seen it so I'll put it on the library research list and add it when I have a proper citation. Slight Additions to the 2006-2008 renovations.
[edit]Just added two more renovation features, they are small but relevant all the same. Taken from the Annual Report for the Intrepid, 2007-2009. -Alex.Sio69 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alex.Sio69 (talk • contribs) 04:21, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
In Mare, In Coelo
[edit]I know the citation being used indicates "In Mare, In Caelo" but this is at loggerheads with pretty much all of the contemporary artifacts of Intrepid's service, including the very patch image being used on this page's infobox. "In Mare, In Coelo" is much more predominant and can be found in the Intrepid Museum's trademark, on struck ship's coins, on original patches etc. It should probably be changed accordingly. Thanks, Finktron (talk) 01:47, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
- Done. In fact Gandt and White also used the correct spelling, though I didn't previously notice it. Kges1901 (talk) 09:43, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
