Conversion into a Mosque
[edit]Please note, that while official sources state that the Cathedral was converted into a Mosque around 1970, it wasnt until, around 1990 that the cathedral was fully converted into a mosque, and its Features completely changed. I attended christmass mass meeting at the cathedral late 1990's and i remember visiting Jazair Square, because i live nearby, and i've seen with my very eyes that the Cathedral's features were still there and visible. Until later 2000 when it officially changed into a modernized White painted Mosque. Biomax20 (talk) 23:56, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
Propaganda
[edit]"... and improving many of its original architectural features" --- This must be a joke, The Cathedral's original Roman features were far more artistic and had far more detailed engravings than the modern counterpart comprised of basic bland shapes thrown together by Egyptian workers. There is no information on the wiki page regarding the Cathedral having been seized from the Christian community of Tripoli after Qaddhafi's seizure of power and after the expulsion of catholic migrants who originally built it. "Improving many of its original architectural features!" This is wrong, because the original features were removed entirely and replaced with basic non artistic bland flat surfaces. Wikipedia should not be used as a medium to spread false information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.219.158.99 (talk) 22:50, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
- The information you're talking about sounds interesting, but have you got any references from WP: Reliable sources to support what you're saying? Any language is fine, so long as the source is reliable. Thanks. The Mighty Glen (talk) 00:06, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
@The Mighty Glen: It's understandable to note that there are no 'Reliable sources' however, During Gaddafi's period, you will rarely find any reliable sources because people here rarely want to keep any reliable sources
moreoever, it was common practice to hide its origins and rewrite Libyan history from 1960's up to Now. I beleive adding information here ( Even though personal ) is better than having no information, or False information added, until an actual reliable source such as records come up. It is Difficult to attain any reliable sources because of Libya's current violent political situation. So Please accept This information, atleast for now until valid source is added as you wished. I will undo the changes done to the article. I live here for gods sake, AND went to this so called 'Mosque' in 1990's. Biomax20 (talk) 01:48, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hello. My reading of WP:NOR is that less information in a Wikipedia article is better than original research, and writing from personal experience is definitely considered original research here. Without that rule, when other editors who also live there claim to recall the history differently, how would the two competing claims be judged for accuracy? The Mighty Glen (talk) 07:16, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
@The Mighty Glen: Fair enough, but then again when someone contests this information, specifically the year when the Cathedral was converted, how do you go by proving that it is the actual year, disregarding Gaddafi era falsities? Is the word of a national here not enough? Biomax20 (talk) 00:14, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
