Ghetto Article
[edit]Who wrote this article? This has to be the most ghetto article on Wikipedia. The obsessive use of slag and misspellings is ridiculous. ThisIsMyName 10:21, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Album covers and copyright
[edit]I'm not sure that the album cover images should be added to this article. The way that I understand fair use (at least as it applies in the United States) is that an album cover image may be used in an article about the album itself (e.g., in a critical review, or a Wikipedia article specifically about the album in question). Of course, this is not the only article where this has happened. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 20:08, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
- Well, the album cover images were in a section that listed and described, in terms of release date, chart position, and number sold, the albums. Thus that section is about the albums. If the section were split up into separate articles one for each album, why would that suddenly make the use fair? Doesn't seem like a meaningful distinction. (I thought the main fair use restriction on album covers was that they be low resolution images, so that someone can't made their own CD covers out of them.) Wasted Time R 21:42, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
- Actually there may as well be an article for each album - there are lots of Wikipedia articles about individual albums (I've worked on a few myself). This would be fair use because the article is specifically about that particular album. There is also a usabilty issue: when someone clicks on one of those album covers, they are brought to an "Image:" page, not to an article about the album, which could be confusing (and/or annoying). There's a longer discussion at Wikipedia talk:Fair use if you or anyone else is interested. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 00:14, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
- P.S. For what it's worth, according to the article's history I am not the first to make such a removal. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 00:17, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

- Thanks for the explanation. I tried to follow the Wikipedia talk:Fair use thread but it made my head hurt — it's a good thing I didn't go to law school like I had once planned. I'll stay away from album cover images.... Wasted Time R 00:32, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
- Naw, go on ahead, there are probably plenty of albums deserving their own articles, and each of them could use a cover image. I'm not a lawyer either but I know we would be OK with that very specific usage. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 02:20, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
Style and impartiality?

Beef with female rappers
[edit]She recently 8/2/06 came out with a diss song towards khia (type it in seach to see who she is) with who the bieng queen of the south and also with gillie da kid.
well me myself i think khia will beat trina azz but trina still my baby.
The whole thing about terror aquad is speculation, why is it in there?
What about her personal life? She talks about females as early as 'Nann' and on Eboney's remix she's all: feed a chick and stop a dick tell em what he won't do / i keep the coochies bangin like the track boyz do' I wanna know about that!
- Ms. Trina is Da Baddest Bitch. Khia's just a ho. What happened to her and Lil' Wayne? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.110.243.46 (talk) 23:27, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
Khia wanna be the queen of the south, but SHE AINT EVEN FROM THE SOUTH!!!!!! Jacki-O was beefing with her as while, search for the beef song called "Pop Off".
Personal life
[edit]The section on personal life may not be relevent if the information can't be sourced. I propose three days to allow time for at lease one possible source to be found before that section is temporarily removed until something solid occurs.Mcelite (talk) 22:20, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Birth date?
[edit]I don't believe that "Trina" is born in 1978 because the whole "catch" to her dating rapper, Lil' Wayne, was that she was much older than he. If she is 31, then she is only a couple years older than him. What is her actual date of birth?
- allmusic: December 3, 1978
- Musicianguide: April 18, 1974
- Interview magazine 2002 article suggests either 1976 or 1977
- Miami New Times 1999 article seems to support the 1974 birthdate
So for now we should just keep the birth date blank given the inconsistencies in the sources. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 00:48, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- This does pose a problem because allmusic is one of the most reliable sources. the only thing I can think of about the 1974 birthdate is the possibility of them confusing her birthdate with Lil' Kim which we finally confirmed for her birthdate to be 1975 not 74. Maybe another interview with her will shed more light on the situation or maybe just going with allmusic? idk this is frustrating. lolMcelite (talk) 03:40, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- It looks like the date had stabilized on 1978. A user changed it today to 1974, claiming to have gone to HS with Trina. I changed it back to 1978, then saw this discussion. I'm leaving the date in and cited to Allmusic, although I wouldn't argue if it were removed because of the difficulty verifying it. (I did move a lot of unsourced or improperly sourced stuff from the article tonight, though.) —C.Fred (talk) 06:47, 10 March 2011 (UTC)""
- Yeah the 1978 really seems to be the most consistent thing across the board as aggravating as it is, she's not a "low" level rapper yet find a strong reliable source for her birthdate is difficult.Mcelite (talk) 07:14, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Album sales
[edit]Does anybody have verifiable sales figures for Trina's albums? Robinlovemusic (talk · contribs) keeps trying to add the figures; however, the press release that (s)he keeps citing does not give sales figures for the individual albums or cumulatively for Trina (although it does give a total for the label she's signed to). —C.Fred (talk) 13:27, 9 May 2011 (UTC)
Whole Wikipedia Page needs fixing
[edit]Trina's whole WikiPedia page needs fixing, lots of misspellings and missing information, she has done lots of charity work which is not included in her bio along, with her Diamond Princess Perfume, Personal Life etc. I've been waiting forever for someone to come along and fix her page up but it seems its getting worse, for a woman who career spans over 13 years Its a shame its so short, when she has done ALOT more than whats written on her page, c'mon folks lets get it together. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.79.214.54 (talk) 06:28, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
- Instead of waiting for others to fix this article, you are welcome to contribute. Just remember when adding material, use good sources and show them with the ref tags as "Encyclopedic content must be verifiable."—Iknow23 (talk) 06:44, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
Removal of foundation and perfume section
[edit]I removed the text about her foundation, because it relies only on an interview in a non-reliable source, a blog-type site.
The perfume doesn't warrant a section of its own. If it was released in 2008, it might make sense to mention it in the section of her music career for that time period? That would especially be the case if the perfume name ties in with an album name. —C.Fred (talk) 00:11, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
red bottoms.
[edit]can somebody please tell me that I'm not the only one that see red bottoms number 100 on R&B/hip-hop chart?

- "Long Heels Red Bottoms" does appear to be on the R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. However, is it a release from the mixtape or the upcoming album? It might warrant a sentence here, but I'm not sure we can call it a "summer anthem" as you've attempted to based on the limited information at Billboard. It should probably also be listed in the Trina discography. —C.Fred (talk) 16:03, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
No H8 ad?
[edit]According to Hip Hop Wired, Trina has posed for the NOH8 Campaign.[1] Is that work mentioning in the article, and if so, do we just put it in the music career section? —C.Fred (talk) 20:49, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Awards
[edit]The artist is not honored at the VMA's for the technical awards unless they contribute to the direction, choreography, ect. Trina was only nominated herself for one award in 2001. Also, in 2008 there is no record of her being nominated for Best Hip-Hop Video as well as no Best Remix of the Year in 2010. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xffactor (talk • contribs) 08:21, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
Near Positive?
[edit]I'm curious about the whole, "Despite its low sales, the album received near positive reviews from critics." comment and language - and where it came from. Does this in fact mean that the critical reception was negative? Please. I'll have to remember this the next time my board meets and has an "unexpected result" that amounts to "near positive" financials... Let's keep the language clear people, and avoid turning this article in to even more of a spin based advertisement than it already is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.112.131.231 (talk) 20:56, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

Trina → Trina (rapper) There is a clear policy-backed consensus in favor of the proposed moves. Wouldn't it be best to disambiguate article with a more accurate term of "rapper" -- Happypillsjr ✉ 07:53, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. What other article would be the primary topic? —C.Fred (talk) 13:05, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose.
So far as I can tell there are no other articles with this title, so no need to disambiguate.PC78 (talk) 16:42, 14 February 2019 (UTC)- OK, so there are other articles, but the sheer volume of page views for the rapper compared to other uses suggests that she's the clear primary topic. PC78 (talk) 01:24, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
- There should be a dab somewhere (Trina (name), Trina (butterfly)), but that doesn't mean this isn't the primary topic. Dekimasuよ! 19:15, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
- Support move to Trina (rapper) - ridiculous to think this rapper is primary topic over the given name itself and any other topics. Support creation of a full disambiguation page at primary, which could additionally list Cyclone Trina, Trina (butterfly), etc. This is the best long-term solution for the encyclopedia. -- Netoholic @ 21:22, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
- Support move to Trina (rapper) - never heard of her, but apart from that nothing about the bio suggest overwhelming long term importance. In ictu oculi (talk) 22:42, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. Trina (butterfly) and Cyclone Trina have an average pageview count of 2 and 1 a day, respectively, while this article's is 1,515. There is no other mononymous use of Trina that is prominent enough to warrant changing this article's title; it would be throwing a fork in the way of readers for no reason. Nohomersryan (talk) 01:06, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
- WP:MONONYM actually discourages this sort of first-name/stagename use as a title at all, and I'd be fine with renaming the article to use her full name Katrina Laverne Taylor also. But barring that, it should be handled exactly like Eve (rapper). Page views are not everything. --Netoholic @ 03:01, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
- You mean the same way we also handle Eve (Biblical figure)? —C.Fred (talk) 03:04, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
- It takes a truly exceptional set of circumstances for an article to be titled according to a mononym rather than a full name (usually a historic lack of a last name). It takes an even higher degree for such a mononym to be a primary redirect like in the case of Oprah redirecting to Oprah Winfrey. For such a mononym to be a primary topic requires monumental historical impact, such as the case of Eve. -- Netoholic @ 03:35, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
- No, it doesn't discourage that, otherwise no mononymous article would exist at all. The caveat is "the last name is known and fairly often used". This is clearly not the case, and Katrina Laverne Taylor is clearly not WP:COMMONNAME. Nohomersryan (talk) 06:59, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
- I said "discourage" not "disallows", but the circumstances necessary have a high bar. On the long name, you're partially right. After reviewing the available sources in the article, it seems that Katrina Taylor is "fairly often used" moreso than the longer name, so that might be the better move target. -- Netoholic @ 08:44, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
- Has she done anything as prominence as Katrina Taylor that makes it a common name either? Every album of hers is as Trina. Nohomersryan (talk) 10:04, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
- My main vote is above. I think that usage is at the level of considering "Trina" an appropriate title as a stagename, but not without disambiguation and because she isn't the primary topic over all other uses of "Trina". -- Netoholic @ 10:42, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

Since we have a full newspaper article supporting 1974, that story (and the related editing and fact-checking) seems more reliable than a tweet. Accordingly, I've removed the tweet after another user changed the date. —C.Fred (talk) 20:51, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
- I'm honestly of the mindset that we should only be including birthdates that are covered by RS, because if they're not important enough for them to do it, why would we? PICKLEDICAE🥒 20:57, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

So she graduated high school in 1992 being only 14 years old (see section early and personal life)? There is no reliable source for that either. Trina biography: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1056298/bio — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.112.152.113 (talk) 15:22, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- I even tried to put 1996 and it was reverted? Wow. Oldschoollover24 (talk) 16:30, 26 November 2023 (UTC)

Graduated from high school at 14 in 1992?
[edit]“Katrina Laverne Taylor was born on December 3, 1978, in Miami, Florida. … She attended Miami Northwestern Senior High School, where she was a majorette, and where she graduated from in 1992.” I’m confused here because that if you were born in 1978, you would graduate high school in 1996 or 97, or, If you graduated high school in 1992, you were born in 1973 or 74. So I am not sure if there is a way to graduate at 14, because if she was born in 1978, graduated from high school in 1992, that’s confusion. Because I know there were changes in her birth year because that Ms. Trina might have been lying about her age, because that might be the real reason why there is difficulties in sources not knowing her real birth year. Public records cannot prove her birth year on this encyclopedia. What I mean in public records is if like, if there are public records that prove an person’s birth year that is not their real birth year that is noted in usual sources, the birth year can just be in the missing category. - My edit was recently reverted because “unsourced” about her high school graduation date, when it is obvious that she graduated at 18 or 19. I even found public records about her age and they list she is 48 years old (almost 49). So 1974 is correct. Oldschoollover24 (talk) 15:16, 26 November 2023 (UTC)
