Autobiographical?
[edit]Why is this even listed. It is less than notable. Kelly is a pedophile and rapist. Why glorify him.
The article refers to the main character in the song as "R. Kelly." Although the song is sung in the first person, I would recommend changing this to "the singer" given that the song is not meant to be taken literally as an autobiographical experience. --Metropolitan90

Chapter 11
[edit]Isn't Chapter 11 where Bridget reveals that the Midget is her baby's Daddy? So, that would mean this has 13 Chapters?
- Yes, Chapter 11 is the one that ends "the midget is the baby's daddy..." and is the last episode before we jump back to Kathy, Rufus and Chuck. Don't know why someone keeps removing it. I haven't seen or heard a 13th chapter yet, though. The last one I'm aware of is Chapter 12 and ends with "that ho was me..." as Kathy explains to Gwen what happened with her and Sylvester. --Patrick T. Wynne 19:45, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
- However, at the VMAs, availible at the link below, R. Kelly cuts out "the midget's the baby's daddy," instead using the DVD's Chapter 12. Chapter 13 (in DVD continuity) is Chapter 12 at the VMAs.
- Then perhaps this should be mentioned somewhere in the article as an alternate presentation of the storyline. The DVD continuity, however, would appear to be the "canonical" Trapped in the Closet and should be the one described as it's R. Kelly's official release of his story. At least, that's my opinion. --Patrick T. Wynne 21:27, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
===Chapter 13=== I think this might be smeone joke.. cause I've never heard of it
No... This is correct what has been stated about chapter 11 is true. and chapter 12 ends in "that ho was me" Noone yet has heard of chapter 13, but if you have please post it.. I have chapters 1-12 on dvd. Im up to date with evreything. So any questions ask me
Heres a link for chapter 13... Anyone know if this is supposed to be the last one? http://www.geocities.com/anthony_t_ogunware/Chapter13_Lyrics_TITC.html -corrine
Mad TV Parody
[edit]Mad TV also made a parody R. Kelly's urban opera entitled "Trapped in the Cupboard." Here is a link to the Trapped in the Cupboard video: [1]
MTV compare
[edit]What was the name of the weird guy who introduced chapter 6 at the MTV Music Video awards? He looked like Eddie Vedder after decades of abusing drugs.
- That was Eric Roberts, older brother of Julia. --Patrick T. Wynne 04:53, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
"Song" to "Video"
[edit]The article only ever explicitly refers to Trapped... as a song, yet clearly the article is about the video version. Can someone fix this please? Canonblack 11:24, 23 December 2005 (UTC)
Obvious Homosexual References ignored
[edit]This article totally ignores the value of this peice for the gay community. It is about the author R. Kelly coming to terms with his true sexuality and he displays it by both staying in the closet as well emphasizing a promicious lifestyle with females in his life much like a ruse.
- Hahahahaha. If you can find any other sources which take this point of view, post them here. Now I'm interested. --Liface 00:13, 4 January 2006 (UTC)
- NOT EVERYTHING WITH GAY PEOPLE IN IT HAS VALUE TO THE GAY COMMUNITY. Jeez. Thunderbunny 05:04, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'll be frank: I have only heard of this because of the connection to the South Park episode. Skimming over the article, I have to ask this: Does R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet" have anything at all to do with homosexuality? If it does, the article does not mention it; if not, Kelly has missed his own pun. Where is the connection? — Mütze 01:22, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- It's not so much about homosexuality, but about skeletons in the closet, I believe.

Rufus says "since we're all coming out of the closet..." right before he calls Chuck, so Kelly was aware of the double meaning. I think you're really overthinking this though — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.116.146.229 (talk) 19:43, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
Chapter 13
[edit]Where is chapter 13??
- it's not produced yet or not completely and it may end at 15
Genius?
[edit]This article states that "Kelly maintains that he is a genius for pioneering" hip-hopera. However, there is no source or citation for this statement. I would love to know if he truly claims this.
- Watch the commentary on the DVD. It is inherent in everything he says. I believe one of the quotes was "I think trapped in the closet is something that going to be around for a long time, even after I die." He constantly mentions how it's so new and exciting and going to inspire a lot of people. Kells is awesome... --Liface 19:01, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, but does he actually claim that he is a "genius"? If he does not, this should be removed from the article. PenguiN42 17:00, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
- I would support a re-wording, but I don't exactly know how to say it. --Liface 17:06, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

(Moved) Hip Hopera
[edit]The article claims that Kelly's endeavour is pioneering a new genre 'hip hopera'...the fusion of opera and hip hop predates Trapped in the Closet. Most notabley- Carmen the Hip Hopera..(released 2001) is listed on wikipedia and indicates that Kelly did not invent the approach...in fact the variety of musical styles and lyrical diversity of Carmen the Hip Hopera suggest that is is much more developed then kelly's admirable project. 83.105.63.235 14:16, 27 December 2006 (UTC)Ben the impersonator
Comedic value
[edit]I removed stuff about the comedic value - although I agree with it, there was no sources cited for this. It's obvious that Trapped in the Closet is hilarious, but we don't even have any concrete evidence that Trapped in the Closet is "serious" and not comedic.
If you watch the behind the scenes video on youtube he talks about how some of it is supposed to be funny. I'm guessing he's referring to things like including a midget and having the neighbour holding a spatula.
- I agree, so I'm removing the claim that Trapped in the Closet is unintentional comedy.
- Whatever it is, British TV have torn into its comedy levels. To be honest I personally think hes deadly serious, but until we get a quote, I'm just gonna laugh 90.192.92.47 16:21, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Cliffhanger lines
[edit]Do we really need these? First of all, I'm going to remove the "opening" cliffhanger lines because an opening line is not a cliffhanger. If no one objects I'm removing the rest too. --Liface 03:10, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes we REALLY need these. --Dee4leeds 11:07, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Shouldn't it be explained that the cliffhanger in Chapter 9 is that there's no cliffhanger? He makes a big deal of it on the DVD commentary.Kgppra17 02:43, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
Point of clarification: the lines are clearly "cliffhangas" not a "cliffhangers".DEFmagic (talk) 19:18, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit]The infobox gives a chart position for the single, but is this for just one chapter or what?

Clean up
[edit]I did some major clean up on this page. I took out all the broken links, cleaned up the actor and actress board and a few other things here and there. I think this article looks a hell of alot better now. Anyone agree? --FSX-2007 02:58, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Spanish
[edit]I'm posting here because no 'create new topic' option is given. Can I ask why the voice actors who have dubbed the opera for Spanish-speaking audiences are credited in the cast? I believe there is an existing Spanish Wikipedia. The information would be far more useful there. I was personally very confused when I first read the cast list. DanTheShrew (talk) 15:28, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
I removed the Spanish-speaking voice actors. This seems to be no place for them. It looks much nicer now. DanTheShrew (talk) 15:35, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Pimp Luscious
[edit]Technically, Pimp Luscious first appeared in Chapter 18, yet it says he first appeared in 19.
- Well if you have a source, please fix it. Carl.bunderson (talk) 23:22, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Chapter 20
[edit]The last note about Chapter 20 is:
- "The Package" is believed to be HIV/AIDS because of the slang term, "the whole package", defined as prison slang for HIV/AIDS; given the large-scale interconnecting relationships this is a serious issue affecting most of the characters in the series. This has been disputed, as Chuck is pictured in a hospital, wearing a bandage on his head during chapter 18. There is belief that he has been beaten, and no disease is involved at all.
I think it's pretty clear that it's supposed to be both. Randolph hears that a gay man is in the hospital and immediately assumes HIV/AIDS. That's what happens when people spread rumors with incomplete information. Chuck is in the hospital for a head injury and Randolph, through Rosie, starts spreading the rumor that Chuck has "the package." There will probably be future chapters dealing with the fallout from this erroneous rumor/smear campaign.
So, yes, "the package" is HIV/AIDS and Chuck does not necessarily have it regardless of what Randolph says. For a song that concerns itself with the many lies told because of infidelity, why does what Randolph says have to be the absolute gospel truth?--174.70.113.210 (talk) 22:53, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
(Moved) Phrasing?
[edit]"'"Trapped in the Closet"' is often called a rap opera despite the fact that it doesn't contain any rapping." Or: "Trapped in the Closet" is often called a rap opera despite the fact that it is in no way an opera whatsoever.

Chapters 23 to 33 out now - article needs updating
[edit]The article needs some serious updating. Also as the saga is getting much longer perhaps a complete overhaul or splitting into parts: ie. 1 to 12, 13 to 22, 23 to 33. Otherwise we will have a very long article. Something to talk about? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.196.204.206 (talk) 22:05, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
