[edit]"It is notable by virtue of the fact that it's one of the few Australian mass produced beers which is even remotely palatable. It is therefore one of the only two such beers to earn a mention in Great Beer Guide. The other is Dogbolter."

Has or is this beer imported to USA? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.64.185.60 (talk) 11:07, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Style?
[edit]I tried this brew circa 1975, and it was a Porter ... a mild stout. The brew now tastes nothing like this. It is mostly light malt, possibly with some wheat, and a small dollop of coffee style black malt, and barely detectable hops. A weak copy of Bavarian Dunkel.
History
During the 1960's and 1970's this beer was available only in the Newcastle/Hunter Valley region. Most pubs in the area were tied to either the Tooheys or Tooths brewers both of which produced two main beers. Tooheys Old was called 'black' when being ordered and Tooheys New, a much lighter beer, was called 'white'. This conventions distinguished the Tooheys beers from the Tooths brands which were conventionally called 'new' and 'old'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.206.19.251 (talk) 23:46, 19 November 2016 (UTC)
