[edit]The 1866 Tomlinson's is a largely different work than the 1852 version (38% larger). The scholarship is a decade later.
Although I own a copy of the 1866 version, I don't own a copy of the 1852 version.
It would be nice to have the guidance of an editor who has access to both — it's possible the other article is written from a bookseller's synopsis, and not by a Wiki editor who's read it. There's "marketing" language which -- I'm guessing -- either inappropriately describes the focus of the 1852 edition ("devised to celebrate the Great Exhibition" and "enormous range of topics from a British perspective") or describes a work which substantially differs.
There are some related issues in the "Cyclopedia" discussion Section "Old and New versions of cyclopedia" [1]
