[edit]

This page is slightly confused. There are 2 American directors called Tom Stern and the text and external links are mixed between them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.108.249.111 (talkcontribs) 09:29, 17 February 2008 (UTC+9)

BLP unsourced

[edit]

None of the information contained within the article is supported by a reliable source. Without reliable sources, it's pretty much impossible to verify the accuracy of what is written. Moreover, information that is not properly supported by a reliable source may be removed per WP:BLPSOURCES. Therefore, I have added a {{BLP unsourced}} template to the article just to bring this to the attention of other editors per WP:TMC#Best practices in obscure or unpopular articles. I will try and see if I can find any sources, but hopefully the template will attract the attention of other editors because the more people looking the better the chance of finding something worth using. - Marchjuly (talk) 04:38, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox

[edit]

In my opinion, the {{infobox person}} is actually hurting this article more than it is helping it. It is basically a "disinfobox" and, therefore, should be removed . WP:INFOBOXUSE says, The use of infoboxes is neither required nor prohibited for any article and usage or non usage is to be determined through discussion and consensus among the editors at each individual article. So, let's discuss.

FWIW, there are plenty of featured articles that do not use infoboxes so just having an infobox for the sake of having one seems counterproductive. I don't feel the article, in it's current state, contains enough information to support an infobox. Moreover, simply filling in more infobox parameters with trivial information is not going to drastically improve the situation. Rather, I think it would be much better use of space for a photo of Stern if one which complies with WP:IUP can be found. If at some later date, the article has been expanded to include more information, then re-adding an infobox could always be proposed. - Marchjuly (talk) 05:20, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Idiot Box: Tim Burns

[edit]

I was able to find a couple of sources for Stern's and Alex Winter's involvement in the MTV series The Idiot Box. Neither of the sources I found, however, make any explicit mention of Tim Burns. I'm not saying that this means Burns was not involved in the project, just that the sources I added do not support his involvement. I tried but just couldn't figure out a way to re-word the text to keep the mentions of Burns and make use of the sources per WP:RSCONTEXT without synthesizing things into something that the sources do not say. Since this is an article about Stern, I felt the choice was between adding reliable third-party sources for Stern or keeping unsourced references to Burns. So, I removed the Burns mentions per WP:BLPSOURCES and reworded the text as best as I could. If a source is found that mentions all three or the text is reworded so that there are no text-source integrity issues, then I have no major problems with the mentions being re-added. FWIW, Burns' involvement in the show is mentioned in it's Wikipedia article, but no sources are provided which support his involvement and one Wikipedia article cannot be used as a source for another Wikipedia article per WP:WPNOTRS. - Marchjuly (talk) 08:09, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This LA Times article does say that Burns' was involved in both Freaked and in "The Idiot Box". However, it just says that Burns' was part of the team that worked on "The Idiot Box" and does not explictly created him as a writer. So, I readded Burns' name to the "The Idiot Box" stuff and tried to word it so it accurately reflects the source. - Marchjuly (talk) 14:55, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Silverlake

[edit]

"Personal life" says that "Stern lives in Silverlake California with finance Barbara Bestor, an architect." Is there a "Silverlake, California". Wikipedia says there's a Silver Lake, San Bernardino County, California and a Silver Lakes, California, but no "Silverlake". There is, however, a Silver Lake, Los Angeles, so maybe this is what is meant. The lede says Stern is living in Los Angeles. So, if Silver Lake, Los Angeles is not "Silverlake, California, then lede is incorrect. If "Silverlake" is "Silver Lake, Los Angeles", then the sentence in "Personal life" should be reworded to match the lede. For example, "Stern lives in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles with fiance Barbara Bestor, an architect." or something like that. - Marchjuly (talk) 03:04, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Fiance

[edit]

It might be best to leave the fiance's name out of the article unless it can be properly sourced or can be shown to be something which is relevant to the reader's understanding of Stern. Stern's fiance's name and her profession would be relevant to an article about her, but seems to be nothing more than trivia that is completely unrelated to Stern's notability per WP:NPF. This kind of information may be fine for a personal website or social media page, but Wikipedia is not intended to serve that role. - Marchjuly (talk) 03:06, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
