Temporal scope

[edit]

I wasn't sure whether 2000 belongs with this page or not, so that it could be called "21st century". I've decided to include 2000 since the page is subdivided by decade and 2000, while it was a year in the 20th century not 21st, is clearly a part of the decade of the 00s. Azerbaijan conflict with Armenia

[edit]

Around September 12-14, 2022, Azerbaijan invaded Armenia and has taken control of some portions along the Azerbaijani-Armenian border. The border conflict has still sporadically been continuing throughout September and into early-October, despite an official ceasefire. The initial fighting in mid-September left around 200 Armenians dead as well as many Azerbaijanis. The most recent deaths (at the time of writing) have occurred on 29 September, with a further 3 Armenians being killed by the Azerbaijani military in the conflict. that seems significant. Sm8900 (talk) 22:23, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have added this to the article. Eastwood Park and strabane (talk) 08:16, 15 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Finland joining NATO

[edit]

So apparently tomorrow Finland will join NATO officially and my question is, will Finland joining be on this page? The main reason I'm asking this is because of pure curiosity but I'm also asking this because the UK leaving the European Union is here. Patriciogetsongettingridofhiswiki (talk) 19:06, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it will be, as I don't see any of the dates for others countries joining NATO in the 21st century (such as Croatia, Albania, etc.). PrusBis6187 (talk) 19:44, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alright thank you for your answer. Patriciogetsongettingridofhiswiki (talk) 20:31, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have added the NATO information to the articles, as I think it makes sense here. Finland's accession should be noted. Eastwood Park and strabane (talk) 21:02, 3 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Coups and wars

[edit]

Per the lead of the article, this page includes dates of declarations of independence, changes in country name, changes of capital city or name, and changes in territory such as the annexation, cession, concession, occupation, or secession of land. This is not a place for random failed coups, as they are not changes in geopolitics, only the internal politics of a single country. Those belong at List of coups and coup attempts. An internal small-scale civil war within a country would also not be eligible for inclusion for the same reasons. HappyWith (talk) 18:04, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

British Indian Ocean Territory to Mauritius

[edit]

I had a question for my own personal update journal: Did the BIOT transfer to Mauritius already happen? Is the BIOT already part of Mauritius as of 3rd Oct 2024? I havent found a clear answer online. Brokenalarmclock (talk) 03:01, 4 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

From here it seems like it's subject to a treaty and other legal documents being finalised - "This week’s political agreement is subject to a treaty and supporting legal instruments being finalised. Both sides have committed to complete this as quickly as possible"
