[edit]Where is it mentioned that WA agreed to the constitution, having rejected it? Tony 09:23, 8 August 2005 (UTC)
Years in Australia
[edit]Up to around 1930 there aren't many events per year. Wouldn't it make sense to revert the current convention so that years will link to the worldwide pages, such as 1823, while headlines would link to Australia specific pages, such as 1800-99 in Australia or 1850-9 in Australia, or whatever an appropriate period may be? 1892
[edit]1892: Gold is discovered at Coolgardie, Queensland. Is this saying gold was discovered in Coolgardie AND in Queensland or is it a mistake? Coolgardie is in WA, and gold was discovered there in 1892. -- —Moondyne 02:57, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

Factual Error
[edit]The following factual error has been corrected
"1989 - A 5.6 magnitude earthquake strikes Newcastle on 28 December. This was Australia's most serious natural disaster to date"
The Newcastle earthquakes were not Australia's most serious natural disaster to date. For example previous disasters such as: The Broome cyclone 1935, Ash Wednesday fires 1983, Cyclone Tracy 1974, etc. all had a greater degree of severity.
presuming of course the "seriousness" of a natural disaster is measured by death toll and/or amount of destruction.
Historical Significance
[edit]To aid in the start of the new Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian history, I have copied for the time being, this timeline to Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian history/Timeline, where it will be converted hopefully with some work into a structural diagram of current articles, and articles that need to be written. Please contribute, as well as sign in as participants on the project.SauliH 07:04, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
Is anybody able to state definitively whether Mendana (who is more famous for charting the Solomon Islands) mapped Cape York in 1597. I know he was in the region around this time but the only evidence I have is a chart reproduced on a Solomon Island stamp released in about 1980.
rating
[edit]I have given it a mid importance given it is a supporting article for history of Australia, but I was tempted to give it a high! There does seem to be some gaps still, in early 18th century for example. Also wikipedia has a timeline diagram whereby some aspects could be well illulstrated, such as establishment of states and commonwealth. It would probably not take much more to get a B rating, if someone here can say that the subject is well covered! Graeme Bartlett 20:42, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Rewrite needed
[edit]I mean come on - if we are to list no more than two or three items per year, is "Norfolk Island legalises homosexuality" or "Western Australia lowers the age of consent" really that notable? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kransky (talk • contribs) 10:07, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
Expert needed for aboriginal era
[edit]Tens of thousands of years and the best we can come up with is "aboriginal tribes thought to arrive in Australia"?!? This is a huge section that could definately be expanded, IMO
1770
[edit]I notice that the link to the year 1770 is showing red as it points to the non-existent page "1770 in Australia". Do we want such a page or should this revert to the simple "1770" page which refers to world history? --Perry Middlemiss (talk) 01:21, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
- I think a page 1770 in Australia would be a good idea --Matilda talk 01:58, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
2009 Black Saturday
[edit]The claim that the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires resulted in the largest civilian death toll in Aus history is surely dubious. Surely white settlement in Australia resulted in far more aboriginal (civilian) deaths through disease, murder, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.90.235.10 (talk) 17:08, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
Australia Day Protest 2012
[edit]The Australia Day protest of 2012 seems fairly insignificant for inclusion in a timeline of Australian history. The circumstances were unusual, given that the PM's office may have been involved in inciting the protest - but given that no charges have been laid, I think that, if there are no objections after discussion, we can delete it? Some proposed changes to External links
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. Per WP:ELNO point #8. |
Add an external link to National Museum of Australia's timeline
I would like to propose adding a link to the National Museum of Australia's, Defining Moments in Australian history timeline. The National Museum of Australia's, Defining Moments in Australian history timeline is a great and reliable visual resource to understanding Australian History. As an employee of the Museum I am unable to edit this page myself, as I would be in breach of Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines.
Proposed edit: Please add a link to National Museum of Australia's, Defining Moments in Australian history timeline. Website and timeline URL listed below under 'References supporting change'

[edit]- The proposed link requires that browsers attempting to access the content displayed there allow for the use of Javascript.
- Point #8 @ WP:ELNO recommends that links which require this to access content should not be used in External links sections.
- The link may be placed as a source citation if it is used to verify some claim within the timeline's article. Please advise if this is the case.
