[edit]The Forensic Files episode "Outbreak: The Thyrotoxicosis Case" investigates an outbreak caused by ingesting cow thyroid which was included in hamburger meat and caused Thyrotoxicosis factitia in 121 residents of Valley Springs, South Dakota and Luverne, MN in 1985.
Between Jan & March 1984 a similar outbreak occurred in York County, Nebraska, where there were 54 cases documented.
These outbreaks caused the FDA to label the thyroid gland as "unfit for human consumption." Richard Rowe (talk) 22:28, 16 November 2011 (UTC)
