Requested move 28 June 2024
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Speedy close as moved. Procedurally, this is a request to revert a recent undiscussed move that was submitted as a technical request. The onus for justifying a renaming of an article should fall on the person who wants to move the article away from its long-stable name, not the person who wants to move it back. Þröstur Þórhallsson → Throstur Thorhallsson – was recently moved to a title with Icelandic thorn in contravention to Wikipedia:WikiProject Iceland/Style advice Quale (talk) 13:58, 28 June 2024 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). ThaesOfereode (talk) 15:51, 28 June 2024 (UTC)
- Re: linked page,
- "If an article has a name with one or more characters not used in modern English, diacritics, or both, remember to create redirects from other likely spellings. For example, Súðavík needs a redirect from Sudavik, and probably also from Súdavík since some texts may keep accent marks on vowels but change 'ð' to 'd'."
- Since the move automatically uses the previous page name as a redirect to the thorn-using spelling, is there any real reason to move it back? If there is, shouldn't at least the diacritics (i.e., ö, ó) be preserved from the move, such as on pages like Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson or Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir?
