- ... that when the owners of the Thirsty Beaver (pictured) refused to sell, developers built an apartment complex in a horseshoe shape around the establishment? Source: The result, a horseshoe-shaped apartment building wrapped around the Beaver, illustrates the larger story of Plaza Midwood’s fight to retain its identity.
- ALT1: ... that The Washington Post described a North Carolina dive bar (pictured) as "a middle finger to the development surrounding it"? Source: Sandwiched between two wings of an apartment building, this small dive bar is a middle finger to the development surrounding it.
- ALT2: ... that Thirsty Beaver (pictured) has been described as "Charlotte's own version of the house from Up"? Source: The one-story dive bar in Plaza Midwood has been transformed into Charlotte’s own version of the house from “Up,”
- ALT3: ... that In 2021 the Thirsty Beaver (pictured) received national attention when Mick Jagger of the The Rolling Stones posted an image on social media of himself drinking there? Source: On Thursday night, Jagger, 78, shared a photo of himself outside Thirsty Beaver Saloon, in a cap and sipping a beer, with the caption "Out and about last night in Charlotte, NC."

- Comment: Open to other hooks and hopeful that we can use the image to show the diminutive bar swallowed by the development
Moved to mainspace by Bruxton (talk). Self-nominated at 15:50, 10 November 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Thirsty Beaver; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.
- New to mainspace, long enough, well sourced (though might want to replace WP:WASHINGTONTIMES with another source's publishing of the AP story). Gave it a copyedit for grammar and some close paraphrasing. Photo is good, CC0. Approve ALT0, ALT1, ALT2 (which I've c/e'd).
Was this the inspiration for that South Park episode? As soon as I saw the picture in this article, that’s what it reminded me of (with Kenny’s house standing in for the bar in that episode, and SoDoSoPa standing in for the apartment building). It seems like the episode came out around the same time the developer was trying to buy the Thirsty Beaver, but I’m not sure if the similarity is intentional or just coincidence.2604:2D80:6984:3800:0:0:0:F2CD (talk) 17:49, 4 December 2023 (UTC)
- I am not familiar with the show but I know there are a few other nail houses - I am not sure about bars. Bruxton (talk) 15:02, 5 December 2023 (UTC)

I'll have a go at this one. Chiswick Chap (talk) 13:48, 3 February 2024 (UTC)

[edit]- Ah, what a sad story. I do think the link to "holdout" in the lead should display that word, however. (Could be "[[holdout|held out]] against two offers".)
- Completed this Bruxton (talk) 15:28, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
- No need for "Holdout" in the See also list, by the way, as it's already in use, though you might want to link it once in the article body.
- Completed this Bruxton (talk) 15:28, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
- Not sure the 'Background' / 'History' split really works, as both sections describe the building's history. Most of the material would work in a 'History' section, with the last paragraphs ("The bar ... month.", and "In 2021, ... there.") of each of the two current sections in a 'Features' section.
- I have rearranged the article Bruxton (talk) 15:40, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
- I can't see the bras nailed to the entrances, presumably they're inside. Quite the feature.
- Yes to get images I had to ask Flickr editors to change the license on their uploads - none of the interior yet.
- The images run into the References, since the infobox takes up so much space. Might be as well to organize them in a gallery.
- I have created a gallery
- The "side view" is actually a corner or three-quarter view as it shows the front also.
- I changed the caption to read "mage of the beaver mural"
- Spotchecks are fine. I've marked [7] Sprinkle's link as dead, no worries as it's already archived.
Summary
[edit]Well, that's about it from me. All good, basically. Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:19, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
