Spelling of "de Leeuw"
[edit]So someone had changed the spelling to "deLeeuw", which broke the link to Karel de Leeuw, so I changed it back. Then I changed the other instances for consistency. Then I started to wonder and checked into it. Google returns about twice as many hits for "karel de leeuw" as "karel deleeuw", but they aren't all about the mathematician. On MathSciNet it seems that he himself wasn't consistent; some papers have him one way and some the other (though rather more seem to have the space than not).
Anyway I don't feel strongly about it if anyone has a strong argument for the no-space. But in any case there should be a redirect so that both spellings are blue links. --Trovatore 05:06, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
Stanford University alumni?
[edit]Streleski is in the category Stanford University alumni even though he presumably never received his doctorate after murdering a professor. Undergrad was at UUIC. Thoughts on the appropriateness of this categorization? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aednichols (talk • contribs) 02:58, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
- The article on Alumnus#Usage says that an alumnus is "a former student and most often a graduate of an educational institution." There is no denying that he is a former student, and although he is not a graduate, he might be still considered an alumni. I think these decisions have to do with the school's preference. My alma mater chooses to list all former students as alumni, but I do not know about Stanford. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 03:11, 6 January 2014 (UTC)
- Actually, per the Stanford Alumni Association to be a part of the Alumni Association, one must "have completed a minimum of three academic quarters as a matriculated, degree-seeking student, in a degree-granting program." So basically, since Streleski was an enrolled student in the PhD program (degree granting) for many years, he would be eligible to join the Alumni Association although they might refuse him for not being in "good moral character." By their own requirements, I believe that he is a Stanford Alumnus. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 03:16, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

Dead?
[edit]Google says he died in 2017. No references I can find substantiate it. Given he was born in the 1930s it makes sense but it needs something to back it up before one adds it to Wikipedia. AprilHare (talk) 17:42, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
