Lead

[edit]
  • nabashed → "unabashed"
  • Healy presented the song to One Direction, who declined, and the 1975 recorded it for themselves. → Healy first presented the song to One Direction, who declined, so the band decided to recorded it.
  • and incorporates aspects of dance-pop, electropop, new wave, funk, R&B, pop-gospel and indie pop. → Remove it, the lead should summarize the entire article and not go on this much detail.
Good work. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 20:27, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Giacobbe talk 21:06, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Upon release, "The Sound" was met with widespread acclaim from contemporary music critics, many of whom deemed it a standout from I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It. Specific praise was given to the production, lyrics and the 1975's embrace of pop music. → include this on the second paragraph
  • The song later appeared on numerous year-end and decade-end lists. → name some such as Rolling Stone, Time and Pitchfork. Remove the word "later"
  • reached the top 50 in Belgium → see below

Background and development

[edit]
  • The 1975 released their eponymous debut studio album in September 2013 to critical and commercial success. → their debut was met with general favorable reviews, "critical success" seems a bit over the top.
  • Three sentences that lead no where regarding this article, only talking about their first albums and single.
  • The first paragraph should start "In June 2015, the 1975..."
  • The album was released in February 2016 and includes "The Sound" → I believe you don't need to say something like this.
  • This first paragraph will have two sentences, I suggest to merge it with the last of this section.
  • As it was not a standalone single, the brief background context for its parent album is important for readers not familiar with the song. The same background info is also included on two other GA's from the same album. Giacobbe talk 19:18, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Its parent album? The first pagraph only talks about the debut album. I guess you could add that info on the lead single of the second album...but the third? MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 20:28, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Since the song was released prior to the album, it's just telling readers the events leading up to it. Essentially it explains that The 1975 was released, followed by "The Sound", and then their second album was released the following month. I reworded it, since without having the single release in there, it lacked context. I also included your suggestions. Giacobbe talk 21:05, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There is some misscomunition, those events are important. My issue is with the first three sentences that regard the debut album and their "radio staple". I don't understnd what they are doing here. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 21:38, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@MarioSoulTruthFan: Okay, I removed those parts. Giacobbe talk 21:52, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Music and lyrics

[edit]
  • and has a length of four minutes and eight seconds (4:08) → unneccesary detail
  • According to sheet music → According to the sheet music
  • Eric Hampton → Erin Hampton
  • said it connects the previous singles → more detail, how?

Critical reception

[edit]
  • TS said it has become → Who is TS?
  • convince anyone that this is something you need to experience → what does this means?
  • lauding, lauded... → quite repetitive, try "praised, flatter..." instead of "laud" in some of the sentences

Accolades

[edit]
  • Fine

Commercial performance

[edit]
  • In the 1975's native United Kingdom → remove, you already said on the lead they are from the UK
  • denoting sales of over 600,000 units → I don't like the "sales" here as streaming figures are also included
  • number 28 in Belgium → Ultratip is like Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles, so fix the text accordingly.
  • Numbers below ten should be spelled
  • number 21 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart → see below
  • In the Asia-Pacific region → You don't mention any asiatic countries in the sentence, on the follow up you specify Japan
My bad I completly missread it. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 21:39, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Music video

[edit]
  • There are four references in a row, they clug up the text quite a bit and if I'm looking to see if the sources back up the sentence I'm having a quite some trouble. Maximum three references in a row.

[edit]
  • The song charted on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, so remove Alternative Airplay per Wikipedia:Record charts#Billboard charts
  • I have some doubts regadig the inclusion of Japan Hot Overseas and I might need a second opinion on it.
Use this wikilink if you have doubts regarding which charts you can and can't use. Record charts. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 20:31, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@MarioSoulTruthFan: Thanks for the tip! Have you found out anything about the Japan Overseas? Giacobbe talk 21:05, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Waiting on it. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 21:33, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@MarioSoulTruthFan: I'm just going to remove it for now. I saw you posted a query on the Record Charts talk page. I'll keep an eye out for a response to see whether I should re-add it. Giacobbe talk 21:57, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Fix this I can't access the audio
This one works. Perhaps the one you provided only works in some countries? MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 20:25, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's strange, the one you provided says "Video Unavailable". Just can't win, haha. Giacobbe talk 20:50, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Just remove the audio, there is already a link for the video, more than enough. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 21:34, 3 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Overall

[edit]
  • I noticed a repetition of the vocabulary mainly regarding the word "song" and "track". Try single and recording in some instances.
  • Copyvio score is high at 47.1% and 42.9%; paraphrase the quote "pure pop euphoria, seamlessly weaving together the [1990s] and the present in a bubblegum world brimming with ease and happiness" from Atwwod and "Arst Desk". I know the title of the album doesn't help.
This is fine since the copyvio strike comes from the album title. MarioSoulTruthFan (talk) 12:24, 4 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
