Australian-centric

Smiths were a major brand in the UK for a long time, and Walkers only recently sidelined the brand. It's still in use here occasionally.

Agreed. "The Smith's Snackfood Company is a company best known for producing and selling a range of snack food such as crisps/chips in Australia" might be true in Australia, but here in England they're a company best known for producing and selling a range of snack foods such as crisps. It seems to be catching - see page 3 of [1] from a UK museum - I wonder which was written first? However given that the title of this page is "The Smith's Snackfood Company" rather than "Smiths Crisps" perhaps it is accurate? Most familiar brands seem to have a very convoluted history once they are picked up and kicked around by the global mega corporations. Pterre 11:14, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Walkers

Does anyone know why Walkers killed the Smiths brand in the UK? They kept the brand going for many years, but recently removed the Smiths name from everything, even the "Salt 'n' Shake" crisps which were Smiths' signature product. 217.34.39.123 13:39, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Note - Correction, the Smith's business started in a sublet section of a mews garage in Southend-on-Sea, - not Cricklewood,- which Frank Smith rented from my father, who had rented the whole large space to be fitted out as a Maintenance workshop for the Southend Motor Navigation Co. Ltd., of which Dad was co-Owner with a Partner. Mr. Smith started making and selling the crisps as a one-man band, which later grew to involve his other family members - even before it was selling enough to be formed into a Registered Company - which may have been when production was moved to Cricklewood Dad found he'd gotten a good deal, but had far more space than he needed, so he sublet part of it to Frank Smith, and part of it to Mr. E.K. Cole - who started off his electrical manufacturing business in his little sublet area.
