Star Wars influences
[edit]I was curious if anyone knew if Douglas Adams was influenced by Star Wars in writing this story, or if The Empire Strikes Back was subsequently influenced by this story. The story has masked stormtroopers, a half-cybernetic villain who preys on his own subordinates, a planet-destroying space station, laser gun battles, flying cars, the use of telepathy/psychokinesis and the seeking out/training of a chosen one who naturally possesses such powers, an ice planet essentially devoid of life, and other parallels. It all leads me to wonder if there were other contemporaneous sources for these sci-fi elements or if there might not have been some cross-fertilization going on. 107.10.63.215 (talk) 03:04, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
